Some of the main characters in Friends got involved in the cycle of on-again-off-again relationships, as was the case of Chandler, who broke up and got back together with Janice many times throughout the series – and here’s every one of them. The 1990s saw the arrival of many now-classic sitcoms, and at the top of the list is Friends, created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman. Friends premiered on NBC in 1994 and came to an end in 2004 after 10 successful seasons, making TV history in the process.

Friends followed the lives of a group of six young adults living in New York City and doing their best to balance their social, personal, and professional lives, all while dealing with everything adulthood constantly threw their way. Over the course of ten seasons, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, Joey, Rachel, and Ross struggled to find stability in their personal lives and dated a variety of people, but there were three characters involved in a sort of romantic loop for the most part of the series: Ross, Rachel (these two together), and Chandler, who at various points didn’t seem to be able to get over Janice (Maggie Wheeler).

Janice became a recurrent character and gag in Friends thanks to her obnoxious and nasally voice and her “oh my God!” catchphrase, which was usually heard before the camera turned to her, literally announcing her arrival. At the beginning of Friends, Janice and Chandler were together but he wanted to break up with her, which he eventually did a couple of episodes later with the help of Phoebe. Janice and Chandler got back together a couple more times during Friends season 1, as he invited her to their New Year’s Eve party out of panic of not having a partner, but they broke up before midnight. On Valentine’s Day, Joey had his date set Chandler up on a blind date, who turned out to be Janice. Chandler and Janice spent the night together, and he broke up with her the following morning.

Chandler and Janice got back together at the end of season 2, when Chandler started talking to a woman on a dating website who turned out to be Janice, whose husband had been cheating on her. Friends season 3 began with Chandler and Janice still together and working on keeping a stable relationship, and were close to breaking up when Chandler started to freak out about commitment. Chandler and Janice solved this and ended up telling each other “I love you”, but it all came to an end one more time when Joey caught Janice kissing her soon-to-be-ex-husband. Chandler confronted her and she admitted it, and their relationship was over once again. Friends season 4 saw a now divorced Janice wanting to get back with Chandler, who reluctantly did so and ended up coming up with a lie about relocating to Yemen that went too far, all because he didn’t have the courage to break up with her.

That was the last time Chandler and Janice broke up, as in Friends season 5, she dated Ross while still believing Chandler was in Yemen, and Chandler was secretly dating Monica at the time. However, Janice continued to be present in Friends, and in season 6 she had a voice role in the romantic mixtape Chandler gave Monica for Valentine’s Day. In season 7, Janice learned about Monica and Chandler’s engagement and invited herself to their wedding, with Monica getting rid of her by telling her Chandler still had feelings for her (obviously a lie); season 8 saw Janice being brought into the same semi-private room as Rachel as they were both about to give birth; in season 9, Chandler and Monica came across Janice at the fertility clinic; and in the final season of Friends, Monica and Chandler were checking out the house on sale next to the one they bought and found out that Janice was a prospective buyer, but Chandler convinced her to drop her offer by pretending to still have feelings for her.

In the end, and contrary to what Janice always said and believed, her relationship with Chandler wasn’t meant to be, and ultimately, they found their right person and formed their own families, though it’s fun to see how she always showed up at key moments in Chandler’s life.
