On every television series, fans have their favorite and least favorite characters, characters with whom they most relate, characters they simply just don’t understand, characters they would like to date, and so on. When it came to the show Friends, viewers had some great choices, as the stars of this show made for some gorgeous, hilarious, and fabulous main characters.

They were not perfect, though, as they had flaws, quirks, and weaknesses, which helped in making their stories even more interesting and understandable. That being said, Ross Geller’s five best and five worst personality traits are listed out down below!

Best: Intelligent

Ross was probably the most intelligent main character on Friends, as he went to Columbia University, obtained his PhD in paleontology, and became a college professor.

He may have not had all the common sense in the world, but he was sharp, educated, and knew his stuff, and he loved passing on his knowledge to others… even if they were not thrilled about listening to any of it.

Worst: A Bit Too Nerdy At Times

Ross and Phoebe disagree about evolution.

While being nerdy is not necessarily a bad thing, Ross could be a bit uncool; this story focused on young and attractive friends in New York City, and Ross didn’t always fit in well with the group.

It was hard for him, at times, to loosen up and come down to earth, since he could get stuck in his academic setting!

Best: Mature

Along the same lines, Ross was also quite mature. Sure, there were times when he did strange and goofy things, but overall, he was very polished and sophisticated. His education and career certainly went along with and furthered that.

Plus, just compare him to his best buds, Chandler and Joey: Their behaviors and hobbies were very different, yet they still clicked and hung out all the time.

Worst: Known To Be Arrogant

Ross’ intelligence and maturity could come across as arrogant, which was one of his biggest flaws. Everyone knew he was smart and skilled, so he didn’t need to brag or go on and on about his studies… yet he did every once in a while.

This was rude, annoying and unattractive, while his brain, on its own, could be such a wonderful, intriguing and attractive thing!

Best: Kind

All of the main characters on Friends were genuine and caring pals, and Ross was one of the kindest. He would have dropped everything in order to lend a helping hand, offer up advice, and be supportive, whether he was dealing with his sister, his roommate, his neighbor, or his girlfriend.

He had a sweet and sensitive side, and it was always nice to see it play out within this TV show.

Worst: Felt The Need To Always Be Right

Despite his compassionate side, Ross sort of had this need to always be right. This went along with his intelligence, and it was another super annoying trait.

He was used to being correct and sharp and respected, so when there were times when he was in the wrong or when he made a mistake, it was almost impossible for him to admit defeat or apologize. Furthermore, he had some anger issues, and these reared their ugly heads during these times.

Best: Polished

Another one of Ross’ positive traits was how polished he was; from how he spoke to how he dressed, he was very put together.

As mentioned, he could be dull, egotistical and angry, and he was a nerd (which was sometimes noticeable just based on how he dressed!). However, those who passed him on the street and who knew him intimately could tell that he put pride and effort into how he presented himself to the world.

Worst: Could Be Socially Awkward

... But then he would open his mouth or do something clumsy or make a huge mistake! See, these fictional characters were only human, so while they each had some really great traits, they also messed up and had awkward moments, especially Ross.

Best: Loving

One more trait that was seen in Ross that was oh-so-good was his love. As mentioned, he was kind, but he went beyond that. He loved his loved ones fiercely, and he made that clear in a variety of ways.

His relationships with Monica and Rachel, in particular, showed that he worked to understand people and that he would always be there for them, no matter what.

Worst: Had Some Insecurities

Ross Geller

A final negative trait seen in this character was his insecurities; despite his knowledge, he was not always 100 percent confident, especially when it came to the opposite sex. This made sense, as his childhood crush never seemed interested and his wife left him for a woman. So while being insecure, in general, is common and understandable, it held Ross back quite a bit in life.

He never gave up, though, and he pushed through the pain and struggles, all in order to end up with the love of his life!
