Jennifer Aniston recently teased that Friends could be in for a revival, perhaps focusing on a sort of "Golden Girls Reboot." Aniston played Rachel Green for 10 seasons on the NBC sitcom, so her word is as good as any when it comes to the possibility of the show making a comeback. Friends has gone down as one of the most influential sitcoms of all time, with fans all over the world, so it would surely be a hit if the reboot were to happen.
From Will and Grace, to Twin Peaks, the last few years have seen a lot of other shows pull off hugely successful reboots. With these successes, it's only natural for fans to wonder about whether or not their favorite show could be the next to make a comeback. With this in mind, fans of Friends would surely be excited if somebody told them that there was a chance the show could be on its way back to the small screen - Jennifer Aniston certainly seems to think so, anyway.
In a recent interview with InStyle magazine, Aniston revealed that she wouldn't mind reprising her role as Rachel Green, if the show were to make a comeback. She said that she regularly speaks about the potential for a reboot with Courteney Cox (Monica Bing, née Geller) and Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay). She then continued, saying:
"I fantasize about it. It really was the greatest job I ever had. I don’t know what it would look like today, but you never know. So many shows are being successfully rebooted."
So, it's not just fans, then. Aniston sees it, too. All kinds of shows are coming back, and lots of them are doing really well. If it really was the "greatest job (she) ever had," then of course she'd be interested in giving it another try, given the opportunity. Unfortunately, Aniston said that Matt LeBlanc, who plays fan-favorite Joey Tribiani, doesn't like to discuss returning to the show. LeBlanc currently portrays Adam Burns in Man with a Plan as a series regular, so he may be focused on that for now. However, Aniston went on to say "maybe we could talk him into it." Hopefully, they can.
Despite the fact that LeBlanc doesn't like the idea of making a comeback for a reboot of the show, Aniston then went on to pitch a new idea entirely. She said:
"Or we just give it some time and then Lisa, Courteney, and I could reboot The Golden Girls and spend our last years together on wicker furniture.”
This could definitely work, too. If Aniston is open to returning to her roots as Rachel Green, and Cox and Kudrow have also expressed interest when talking to her about it, then there could be hope yet. Even without the male half of the Central Perk crew, Rachel, Monica and Phoebe could pull off a Friends reboot inspired by The Golden Girls. They can give the rest of the cast some time to change their minds, and, if nothing comes of that, they can return to the show by themselves. In fact, that could even be better, if executed correctly.
In the meantime, Aniston has two upcoming movies, Dumplin' and Murder Mystery, set to release in 2018 and 2019, respectively. At least fans of Friends will have those to look forward to while they wait for their favorite show to go Golden Girls.
