Friends was quintessential viewing for 90s fashion. Be it Rachel's signature haircut or Monica's monochromatic outfits, the women of Friends were bonafide trend-setters. But someone who often went overlooked was Phoebe Buffay, despite her having her own very distinct sense of style.

While her outfits did arguably get stranger over the course of the series, she still has some amazing style moments. Especially in the early seasons, she wore a lot of denim and fringe, and was ultimately very hippy-chic. Her outfits definitely deserve to be discussed, especially her best ones.

Purple Sweatshirt And Floral Pants

During the earlier episodes, Phoebe was often put in the color purple, and she looked great in it. This includes an outfit where Phoebe wears a deep purple sweatshirt along with some flared dark-colored pants that have a floral pattern on them.

Phoebe also adds an extraneous waist belt, which doesn't really help hold her pants up, but overall the silhouette is one that's very popular right now. Peace sign jewelry, or symbolic jewelry in general, is also very on-trend, making this outfit both timeless and current at the same time.

Orange Fur Coat and Brown Dress

This moment happens to be Phoebe's funniest scene on Friends, so it makes perfect sense that her outfit would be just as iconic. She wears a long brown dress with knee boots, along with an outrageous orange fur coat. Colored fur coats are actually quite popular right now, so Phoebe would fit right in with current fashionistas.

The outfit is surprisingly well-coordinated; the orange coat matches with the orange beading on Phoebe's dress, and she furthers this coordination with an orange floral necklace and orange and brown earrings. The color scheme of the outfit is altogether great.

Velvet Button-Up Dress

Phoebe sometimes leaned into a grungey aesthetic in the earlier seasons, as it was a popular style in the early 90s. This includes a dark purple velvet tea dress that she wears, along with some gray tights, black chunky loafers, and chunky jewelry.

It feels like the mature version of a schoolgirl look, and it looks great. The silhouette really suits her, and the dark colors of the outfit help her blonde hair stand out. Velvet is also a great material that ages really well, and it makes the outfit very fall-appropriate.

Red Floral Jumpsuit

Phoebe doesn't wear this outfit for very long, but it has definitely made its mark on audiences. She is wearing a red jumpsuit with short sleeves, a v-neck, and a ditsy white floral pattern. The outfit is loose and casual, making it perfect for a lunch date or a picnic in the park, but the color still makes it stand out.

Phoebe accessories with peace sign and yin and yang necklaces, which helps remind the audience of Phoebe's values and how she likes to show her personality through her clothing. She also has an electric blue fringed bag, which contrasts her red jumpsuit nicely.

Magazine-Patterned Button-Up Top

Many of the things that Phoebe said about evolution in this episode haven't aged well, but she still looked great. Phoebe wears simple black pants, but what really stands out about the look is the shirt. She wears a newspaper-printed sleeveless blouse, which is colorful but casual enough to help clean Mr. Heckle's apartment in.

She accessorizes with a green victorian-style cameo necklace. It doesn't seem like this item would pair well with the outfit, but Phoebe somehow manages to make the chaotic ensemble look great, and it perfectly represents how chaotic she herself is.

Purple Metallic Jacket

Phoebe commonly wore purple during the earlier seasons of Friends, including this season 2 episode. Here, she wears a purple metallic leather jacket. The item is actually very trendy right now, as metallic clothing and dark-colored structured leather jackets are very popular items in the current Y2K trend.

Phoebe styles the jacket with a colorful striped turtleneck sweater underneath, though the purple stripes manage to match the jacket. She then wears some black pants, black boots, and simple accessories, which ultimately lets the sweater and the jacket stand out.

Pink 60s Dress

Phoebe meeting her husband in Friends

This episode showed Phoebe in a sticky situation, that being meeting her gay ex-husband who happened to be straight, but she still looked phenomenal. She wore a white and pink grid pattern shift dress. The look was very 60s, as she even paired it with some white boots and flicked out hair.

This very feminine dress isn't a style that viewers usually saw her in, but she still kept it very Phoebe-esque with the bright pink accompanying earrings. Pink and white go really nicely with her blonde hair, and the lack of big accessories except for the earrings really help the dress stand out.

Yellow Maxi Dress

Phoebe in Friends

This dress appears during one of Friends' best episodes of all time, "The One Where No One's Ready." Phoebe is actually the only person other than Ross who is ready, and the outfit that she chooses to wear, before it is ruined with marinara sauce, is a pastel yellow sleeveless maxi dress.

The color matches her hair, and she lets the dress be a statement on its own by adding some small earrings, though of course her large floral necklace cannot be ignored. Furthermore, when she adds a Christmas bow to cover the sauce stain, it actually still looks good with the outfit.

Black Halter Neck Gown

Phoebe sometimes put on really show-stopping outfits, and this look is the best example. She wears a black floor-length gown with a low-cut halter neck. Black isn't a color that Phoebe often wears, so this makes the look really stand out amongst her other day-to-day outfits.

She wears matching black accessories in the form of a large necklace and bracelet, which adds in some classic Phoebe charm. Though by slicking back her hair, she makes the outfit overall really chic and sleek. No wonder Joey says that in this outfit she looks, "Stop-eating-hot."

Series Finale Outfit

The cast of Friends standing in Rachel and Monica's apartment in the finale

Phoebe made sure to leave a lasting impression on the audience with this great final outfit. As the friends leave Monica's apartment, Phoebe is wearing a long brown suede jacket, a funky-patterned dress, beaded jewelry, and knee-high brown boots.

The silhouette is very similar to Monica's, but the separate elements and colors make the outfit quintessentially Phoebe. In perhaps a callback to the early seasons where Phoebe often wore purple, here she is wearing purple tights, showing how she will always add some vibrant, unique element to every outfit.
