Friends follows the ups and downs in the lives of its six main characters. Monica Geller is one of them; she's a good friend, a good sister to Ross, and a talented chef, but she isn't spared from occasionally being too judgmental or critical of others. Just like everyone else, Monica isn't perfect; she tries to be a people pleaser and the perfect hostess, but even she is prone to mistakes and being hypocritical from time to time, whether she knows it or not.

Her criticism resembles that of her mother's every so often, and her accusations towards Rachel for stealing her thunder were pretty hypocritical.

She Passes Judgment On Other People's Relationships

Monica went through some ups and downs in Friends before she settled down with Chandler; no one's life, or dating history, is perfect. Still, it doesn't stop Monica from passing judgment on other people's relationships, especially Rachel's.

She judges Rachel frequently for her past and current dating history. It's unfair, and pretty hypocritical of her to do not just to Rachel, but all her friends. Especially since Monica herself had some mishaps along the way, notably with Paul and Ethan.

Her Actions In "The One Where No One's Ready"

In "The One Where No One's Ready," Monica isn't the only one holding up the gang from heading out to attend a function at Ross's museum. However, it's surprising, given Monica doesn't like to be late. She was the one rushing around, shouting "let's go" repeatedly when she, Ross, Chandler and Joey were heading off to London, after all.

Nonetheless, Monica is more occupied with a voicemail Richard left than getting ready and being on time to her brother's event; perhaps she's only on time if it's somewhere she actually wants to be.

Her Criticism

Monica's relationship with her mother was incredibly strained, given Judy criticized her daughter constantly. Monica hated being criticized, and it may be why she's such a people pleaser. However, Monica has a tendency to be highly critical of others, doing the same thing to them that her mother had done to her.

Monica can become a drill sergeant in the kitchen, and she'll certainly be clear if she's upset or angry about someone rearranging her furniture or doing something that she doesn't approve of, like eating cookies in bed.

Monica's Secret Closet

If something isn't done Monica's way, she'll fix it and yell at whoever did it wrong. She doesn't like Rachel's rearrangement of their living room, and Chandler practically had a panic attack worrying how Monica would feel after finding out he'd cleaned.

She'll judge other people's cleaning methods and the way they keep things, but she has a mess of her own in the closet; a closet she kept locked and secret, no less.

When She Took Control Of Phoebe's Wedding

Monica wouldn't stand for someone taking over her wedding. Monica wanted to choose everything for her special day; she hardly let Chandler be involved, if at all.

So when Monica took charge of Phoebe's wedding and went overboard, she was being incredibly hypocritical, given she wouldn't love it if someone had done that to her while she was getting ready for her own wedding. She had everything timed to the minute, and wasn't even catering to what the bride and groom actually wanted, which was seriously wrong. It's no wonder Phoebe was fed up with Monica.

Her Opinion Of Chandler's Work Laugh

Monica detested Chandler's work laugh, and even said that she actually respected Chandler without it. However, considering her own scheme to use Joey to get her coworkers at Alessandro's to like her, she should've been more understanding of Chandler's work laugh, given he only used it to make his boss happy and to keep the peace.

Sometimes work situations call for extremes, and if anyone knows that, it should be Monica, given her coworkers at Alessandro's gave her such a hard time.

Her Reaction To Ethan Lying About His Age

Monica lied about her age to Ethan, but was horrified and repulsed when she discovered he'd done the same. However, in his case, he'd made himself older. Granted, Monica's reaction was understandable given he was still in high school, rendering her relationship with him highly inappropriate.

However, her reaction was still hypocritical, given she'd lied to him as well, only to make herself younger. It's not surprising that their relationship ultimately didn't work out; between the lies and hypocritical circumstances, it wasn't meant to be.

When She Urged Rachel Not To Pursue Joey

When Rachel begins to have feelings for Joey, Monica discourages her from pursuing them. For all Monica knew, Rachel and Joey could've been meant to be, just like she and Chandler were. Considering her history with Chandler, she should've at least heard Rachel out, or offered a little encouragement, especially since Joey previously had feelings for Rachel.

Ultimately, it made Monica a hypocrite, given she was judging her two friends when her own relationship with Chandler worked out. Given that, why wouldn't she want Rachel and Joey to be happy together?

Her Lack Of Understanding About Chandler's Smoking

Monica isn't a stranger to personal struggles. She struggled with her weight in her younger years; her heart was even in trouble at one point. Audiences would think that after going through and overcoming that struggle, she'd be more understanding of Chandler's smoking habit.

Monica loves cookies, Chandler loves cigarettes. She was always grossed out by it and didn't take the time to really help her husband kick the habit for good. She could've been more supportive; it may not be food he struggled with, but she should've been more understanding, and it made her a hypocrite to treat Chandler's smoking the way she did.

Her Engagement Night

Monica and Chandler in Friends

When everyone was celebrating Chandler's and Monica's engagement in the Season 7 premiere, Monica becomes furious with Rachel after she witnesses her kissing Ross in the hallway, as she believes Rachel is trying to steal her thunder. Monica wanted it to be all about her, and the situation kept escalating, further driving Monica up the wall.

It's hypocritical, given at Ross's wedding to Emily, Monica was having a hard time and ended up sleeping with Chandler, which would have totally caused drama had anyone found out at the time.
