Friends gave the world the most popular, successful, and beloved group of pals of all time. There was Chandler Bing, Rachel Green, Ross Geller, Phoebe Buffay, Joey Tribbiani, and, of course, Monica Geller.

From her obsessive cleaning and organizing to the compassion and kindness she showed her roommates, buds, significant others, and beyond, this character was made up of many great and some not-so-great quirks. All of the good, the bad, and everything in between helped in making Monica Geller and this story so wonderful, though! Therefore, her five best and five worst personality traits are listed out down below.

Best: Organized

Monica, Chandler and Phoebe Friends

As mentioned and as many know, one of Monica’s most notable qualities was her organization and cleanliness. She took things to the extreme, as she would take over the other main characters’ spaces, in order to scrub down, alphabetize, disinfect, and color code anything and everything.

She was always the main person that did chores around the apartment, and she would not be satisfied with how anyone else did it anyway!

Worst: Controlling

When it came to Monica’s organizational skills and more, she could also be quite controlling. She had a very type-A personality and loved order and control.

So even if she did have the best ideas, methods, and strategies… She did not have to rudely bark out orders or get super anal about everything.

Best: Competitive

Something else true fans know about this character is that she was competitive. Whether she was playing a sport or a board game, she got super intense and had to win. This trait went beyond fun and games, though, as she was pretty competitive in life, too.

On a positive note, this helped her be focused and helped her reach her goals, as she enjoyed the praise and success that would come along with it all.

Worst: Competitive

On the other hand, her competitive nature was also a flaw. As mentioned, the main group could be kicking back for an entertaining afternoon, and she could ruin it all.

She could take things way too seriously. And she could do whatever it took to make sure she came out on top, which was annoying and selfish.

Best: Cook

Monica Friends

Monica was the main one to clean around the apartment and the main one to cook, as this was an interest and skill she possessed.

She even used this to her advantage professionally, as she worked as a waitress, a chef, a caterer, and a food critic.

Worst: Insecure

Those who have seen at least one episode with Jack and Judy Geller know that Monica did not have the best relationship with her parents. Yes, they all loved one another, but her parents, specifically her mother, seemed to give Ross more attention and praise.

A life of this led Monica to have some insecurities; despite all of the positive traits on this list and in her life, she could cut herself down and doubt herself. Furthermore, she used to be overweight, as seen in flashbacks, which did not help her self-doubt and criticism; there were times when she would act disgusted with her old self even. This, sadly, can be common, but self-hatred and all its results are not good qualities.

Best: Loyal

 Friends Monica and Chandler

When talking about any of the main characters on Friends, loyalty could be listed as a top and beneficial trait. This group went through so much together, and no matter what, they supported and loved and cared for each other.

Monica, in particular, took friends in (such as Rachel Green), never gave up on true love (meaning Chandler Bing), and displayed devotion time and time again (to the other main characters and to supporting characters).

Worst: Distracted

As discussed, Monica could feel like she was living in Ross’ shadow a bit, due to how their parents treated them, and she was competitive. So she didn’t just like reaching goals and chasing dreams… She felt like she had to… or else!

This led to her being a bit distracted. She could have been going after a dream job or rushing to settle down, get married, and have kids. And all of this kept her from being happy in the present moment at times.

Best: Sweet

One final great thing about this character was that she was super sweet.

Yes, she could snap orders and make board game nights so not fun, but she was a compassionate and genuine person who tried to do the right thing, spread positivity, and be there for everyone around her.

Worst: Immature

Monica Geller

And for a final not-so-great thing about Monica Geller, there was immaturity that could pop up now and then.

Usually, this came when she didn’t get her way since she expected the best results for herself. This was also seen when she was dealing with her parents since their complex relationship could make her feel like she was still a little girl.
