Friends fans will remember Joey's run as the dashing Dr. Drake Ramoray, so here's the character's arc on the show explained. Friends seemingly came out of nowhere to become the defining sitcom of its era. The show followed the personal and professional struggles of a group of six friends living in New York, with each character having their own unique quirks. In addition to the sharp comic writing, the show was greatly bolstered by its young cast and their chemistry together, and it made stars out of Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show) and Courtney Cox (Scream).

Friends features countless classic moments and lines and is still insanely popular over fifteen years after it ended. There was an attempt to make a spinoff revolving around Joey (Matt LeBlanc, Man With A Plan), with the title character moving to Los Angeles for his acting career. Joey received mostly mediocre reviews and was cancelled after its second season. While fans would love a Friends reunion or revival of some kind the cast has essentially ruled this out, making it unlikely to happen.

One of Joey's big acting breaks during Friends was landing the role of Dr. Drake Ramoray, one of the best neurosurgeons in the world. The character was introduced during season 2 and would recur throughout later seasons. Like the various clips of action movie McBain that played through early seasons of The Simpsons, these various snippets of Drake on Days Of Our Lives add up to a little character arc.

Joey as Drake Ramoray in Days of Our Lives in Friends

Drake Ramoray first appears in Friends season two episode "The One With The Lesbian Wedding," where he explains to the sister of a patient that he's treating her for a subcranial hematoma - he then asks the sister out for coffee. Drake makes more appearances on Days Of Our Lives, but after he claims in an interview he makes up his own lines, the writers put him in a coma by dropping Drake down an elevator shaft. Drake also has a twin brother called Stryker, who is also a doctor.

Drake is later brought back for Days Of Our Lives in Friends season 7, where he's given a new brain from a character named Jessica, played by Susan Sarandon. The show intentionally made it unclear if this resulted in Jessica taking over Drake's body, or if Drake and Jessica shared it. Regardless, Drake would occasionally pop up on Friends in later seasons, including a subplot where Jessica's brain starts to reject Drake's body. Joey also had an encounter with a crazed fan of Drake's in season 2, played by Brooke Shields (Modern Family), and acted as Drake during a hospital visit to help Phoebe find the room number of a man she was attracted too.

Sadly, Dr. Drake Ramoray's run on Days Of Our Lives came to an end once again in Joey, where he's stabbed to death by a nurse during an operation. Matt LeBlanc would briefly revive this beloved Friends character for a cameo on talk Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2015 - having presumably overcome his death.
