All the main characters in Friends had a couple of traumatic experiences growing up and even had difficult relationships with their parents, but the one who always brought his trauma up with a lot of humor was Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), and luckily, Friends ended up flipping one of his biggest curses in the best way possible. Over the course of 10 seasons, viewers got to know the main group in Friends quite well, more so as the show took its time to explore their backstories, which in many cases, explained why the characters are the way they are, as happens with Chandler.

Although each Friends character had problems with their parents, some more than others, Chandler was one of the characters carrying the most trauma thanks to his parents’ divorce when he was a child and the reason behind it, as his father came out as a trans woman and had her own show in Las Vegas, and they didn’t really have a parent-son relationship. His parents' divorce was the reason why Chandler didn’t like Thanksgiving, as it was during Thanksgiving dinner that they announced their divorce to him, and since then, Chandler didn’t have a good Thanksgiving… until the final seasons of Friends.

Friends Flipped Chandler’s Thanksgiving Memories For The Better

Chandler’s parents telling him they were getting a divorce during Thanksgiving dinner was just the beginning of a curse that followed Chandler for years and made him hate Thanksgiving. This was revealed in Friends season 5 episode “The One With All The Thanksgivings”, where it was also revealed that, many years prior to the events of the series, Monica accidentally dropped a kitchen knife on Chandler’s foot, severing his toe, and instead of picking up the toe so he could have it reattached at the hospital, she took a small piece of carrot. However, it was this episode and that specific Thanksgiving where they shared stories from past celebrations that ended Chandler’s curse, as the following Thanksgiving dinners brought more positive stuff to Chandler’s life (though still with a bit of chaos around him).

At the end of that episode, Chandler is upset after learning he lost a toe because he called Monica fat years ago, so Monica, in an effort to cheer him up, puts a turkey on her head, puts a fez hat and sunglasses on it, and dances for him, with Chandler inadvertently saying “I love you” to her for the first time. In subsequent Thanksgiving celebrations, Chandler finally got the approval of Monica’s parents, he learned that Ross and Rachel trusted him and Monica with raising Emma if something happened to them, and found out that he and Monica were going to have a baby. Chandler learned that he was surrounded by love and support and that he could have the loving family he didn’t have growing up, and the series put an end to his Thanksgiving curse.

What Happened To Chandler Bing After Friends?

Friends ignored Chandler story

At the end of Friends, Chandler and Monica moved out of their legendary apartment and into a house in the suburbs so they could raise their child, and they were later surprised to learn that Erica was actually carrying twins, so they ended up with two babies. It’s unknown exactly what happened to Chandler after Friends ended, but by the time the spinoff series Joey began, Joey mentioned all his friends were married and having kids, so it’s safe to say that Chandler and Monica continued raising their children together and living a happy, loving life together.
