So many notable events occurred in season 3 of Friends, including Monica received a race-car bed, 'Ugly-naked guy' was poked with a giant stick, and Ross and Rachel take a break. Despite these iconic moments season 3 was not without its continuity errors. Tiny slip-ups are bound to happen here and there and who doesn't love seeing an actor break-character when something too hilarious not to laugh at happens on screen.
With a potential reunion just around the corner, let's take a look back at some continuity errors from the third season you may not have noticed yet!
Infinity Popsicle
In episode 1 'The One With The Princess Leia Fantasy" Ross is arguing with Rachel about how she told Phoebe about Ross' fantasy with Princess Leia from Star Wars. He goes to the fridge to get a popsicle and takes a bite out of it, but then one of the following shots, the popsicle is full and Ross takes his first bite again.
Often actors may have a bucket beside them when they are eating food during scenes, so if the scene has to be reshot they don't consume too much food.
Houmous Stain
In episode 2 'The One Where No One's Ready', during an argument between Joey and Chandler, the two accidentally get Huomous on Phoebe's yellow dress. After rubbing it to try to get the stain out, it gets bigger. However, in certain shots, the stain appears much smaller than in others.
Phoebe resorts to using a giant Christmas decoration to cover the stain and Ross gets more irritated that the gang isn't ready for his event.
"Women Talk"
In episode 3, 'The One With The Jam', Ross shows Chandler his 'hug & roll' technique he uses on Rachel when he needs his own room in bed. Chandler needs to adopt this technique to use with Janice but when it goes horribly wrong and Chandler flips Janice off the bed he comes clean. Janice then tells Rachel that Chandler got the idea from Ross.
In the final moments of the episode Ross hits chandler with a magazine after explaining that "women talk," but at first, the magazine is only folded in half, then the next shot, it is folded up fully.
Rachel's Ice Cream
In episode 4, 'The One With The Metaphorical Tunnel', Rachel and Monica help Chandler get over his fear of commitment with Janice. Towards the end of the episode, the three are sitting in Chandler's apartment and Rachel can be seen holding ice-cream and a spoon. However, in the following shots, the ice cream can be seen switching between Rachel's hands and sitting on the counter.
Little did Monica know at this time that she was giving advice to her future husband.
Monica's Chop Sticks
In episode 8, 'The One With The Giant Poking Device', the gang thinks 'Ugly naked guy' is dead so they fashion a giant poking device that they use to stretch between the apartments and poke him. Also in the episode, Monica is tasked with looking after Ross' son Ben but when she bangs his head off the roof and Ross finds out, Ross begins to tease Monica that she caused severe damage to Ben's brain.
When he first teases her we can see Monica holding chopsticks in her left hand but in the very next shot, they are in her right hand without her switching them over.
Chandler & Mariangela
In episode 11, 'The One Where Chandler Can't Remember Which Sister', Chandler fools around with one of Joey's sisters, Mariangela. Joey has seven sisters who are all very similar and Chandler can't remember which one Mariangela is. Chandler is sitting in his apartment with Ross giving him advice. In one scene Ross picks up a red cup in front of him to take a sip, but in the next shot, Ross picks up the cup again.
In this season, Joey's sister Nina is portrayed by Lisa Melilli but when we see her again in season 8 she is played by Marla Sokoloff.
Behind The Scenes
In episode 13, 'The One Where Monica And Richard Are Just Friends,' Monica comes home to find Richard sitting on her bed in a tuxedo waiting for her. When the shot changes to a camera from insider her bedroom, through her bedroom door, the backstage of the set is visible.
Some set pieces in the show are visible but only if the episode is watched in the right screen ratio.
Monica's Cake
Episode 18,'The One With The Hypnosis Tape' stars Jon Favreau as Pete Becker, a very wealthy tech businessman who asks Monica out at the diner she works at. In the scene where he asks Monica out, you can see Monica serving a slice of cake before putting the lid on top of the remaining slices, but in the next shot, the lid is gone.
In the following shot, the lid is back on the cake and there are also more cake slices than there were before.
Idiot Duck
Episode 22, 'The One With The Screamer', stars Ben Stiller as Rachel's date Tommy who screams at people but only when Rachel is not around. Ross attempts to expose Tommy to the rest of the gang but fails to do so until the end of the episode when Tommy is screaming at Chandler and Joey's new chick and duck in their apartment for using his hand as a bathroom.
As the duck walks out of the bathroom between two shots it randomly jumps from right beside the bathroom door to in front of one of the lounge chairs across the room with little to no time to do so.
Phoebe's Cookies
In episode 25 'The One At The Beach', Phoebe goes to visit her birth mother at her house and when they first meet, Phoebe gets some cookies out of a cookie jar shaped like a dog.
In one shot we can see Phoebe take the lid off the jar to have a cookie before placing the lid back on, but in the next shot, the lid is off the jar, then on the jar again in the following shot.
