Among being sarcastic, hilarious, and a loyal friend, Chandler Bing is definitely the sweater vest king. While he seems to wear less and less of them as the seasons progress, there are certainly enough moments to give every fan of Friends their fill of a handsome, iconic sweater vest.
With 10 seasons of outfits, it's safe to say that not all of Chandler's were exactly great. From some pretty cringy sweater vests to some surprisingly handsome ones, it's time to rank them. Here are 10 of Chandler's sweater vests, ranked from most lame to, well, least lame.
The Sweater On Sweater
If there's one thing that shouldn't be added to a sweater vest - it's another sweater. While Chandler doesn't actually look half bad in this outfit, it's definitely pretty lame to wear a lounge sweater underneath a fuzzy sweater vest.
This is honestly the opposite of fancy, and is likely the opposite of what was intended when sweater vests were invented. At the very least, it's him as pure as ever.
The (Very) Knitted One
Way back when, sweater vests might have been cool. Even more so, the knitted look might have been a nice nod to one's grandma or spouse. Of course, this knitted look isn't much above lame.
Chandler is notorious for wearing some nice button-up shirts, and completely ruining them with a tacky vest that looks straight out his great-grandfather's closet. On the bright side, this look at Monica is adorable.
Denim & An Over-Sized Vest
Another pretty popular wardrobe trend for this character is the denim shirt behind the sweater vest. While fans might not find this shirt super lame, the incredibly large, loose, and fuzzy sweater vest is definitely leaning towards the lame side.
In fact, he might just be a handsome '90s man in just this light-blue button-up, but unfortunately, the sweater best strikes again, and this one certainly isn't a fan favorite.
The Tie Addition
Sometimes Chandler can spice up his look by adding a tie to his sweater vest outfit rotation. While this episode may not have aged well, it's safe to say that neither did this outfit.
The over-sized shirt and best strikes again, and this time, fans get a colorful and tacky tie to complete the look. Every piece on its own might not be super lame - maybe.
The Dad Look
This was definitely from one of the newer seasons, and fans couldn't quite escape from the sweater vest time. Honestly, this look isn't actually that lame, besides the fact that Chandler looks like a total dad.
He's probably pretty strict and not a huge fan of fun when he's wearing this outfit. However, at the very least, both the vest and the shirt are decent, and the colors compliment each other.
Plaid?
If fans haven't seen every kind of sweater vest yet, it's time to bring out the plaid. Fans might argue this look should certainly be higher up on the lame side, but honestly, he doesn't look that crazy in this one.
Despite it being a plaid and loose-fitting vest, the color scheme is actually kind of flattering, and matches the shirt underneath. It isn't his finest, but it's certainly not his worst.
Brown & Black
Honestly, there are some times when Chandler actually looks pretty dashing while sporting an old-school sweater vest - and this just might be one of them. Like a broken record player - again - he'd look better with just this brown shirt.
Of course, the vest is his thing, and as far as they go, this one might have fans nodding in semi-approval. Chandler Bing is always handsome, anyways.
The-Not-So-'Sweater'-Vest
This vest might not actually be sweater material, and maybe that's why it's not the most lame on this list, but this vest-look certainly still deserves a nod. This look is classy, and might not be that lame!
Still, Chandler had a bit of a problem finding clothes that fit him in a flattering way, and this outfit is no exception. Fans appreciate the change from the sweater, but this vest still isn't exactly making them swoon.
Vintage - So Many Buttons
It's kind of hilarious that the creators of this show decided to always put Chandler in sweater vests. Honestly, it doesn't exactly fit his personality, but, it remains kind of quirky when looking back on earlier seasons.
This look is vintage, and is from early on in the series, and honestly - it isn't half bad. The jacket and shirt are nice touches, and make the vest actually a bit professional and elegant. As far as sweater vests go, this one is a little less lame.
More Denim
Chandler actually doesn't look super lame in this outfit. While this look is certainly the most out-there on this list, it might also just have had the biggest chance at being cool in the '90s - maybe because it's not actually a 'sweater' vest.
It's hard to say any fan would sport this denim shirt OR this checkered vintage vest, but honestly, Chandler looks more like Chandler, and it might not even be that lame.
