There are few, if any, sitcoms that have reached the level of popularity which Friends has amassed over the past twenty-five years, with the era of streaming serving to amplify its beloved nature since its end in 2004. With that level of popularity comes iconography, and throughout the show, there are moments, characters, scenes, and, of course, outfits that display just that.

With Halloween comes the chance to dress up as your favorite characters, and Friends fans are spoiled for choice with just each of the ten seasons of the show offering fans a plethora of outfit choices for October 31st.

Gunther

Gunther at Central Perk on Friends

Friends does not solely consist of the central six groups, and so for hardcore fans of the show who want to go for a more obscure costume, some side character outfits are fantastic options.

Gunther is obviously the best option in this regard, needing any one of his many bad shirt/tie combinations and sun-like hair to make it work for anyone, whether it be the yellow shirt and shapes tie, the blue floral shirt, and blue tie, or the orange shirt and scream tie combo.

The Whole Group

Friends

For groups, there is always the conversation over whether or not to do a big costume involving everyone, and for six-person groups, the options coming from Friends are right there for the taking.

The iconic opening scene with the white and black formal outfits is fantastic and can even get gender-bent if the group is off a little in the numbers. If the opening scene is not to taste, other full group options include the first scene with everybody together in the pilot and the last in the series finale, everyone during the football game, and everyone during Halloween, although those do look separate.

Trios

As a group of six split evenly with guys and girls, Friends' main cast lends itself to trios, with some fantastic three-person outfits available for best friends on Haloween.

The girls have the simple yet elegant on the couch with wedding dresses, which is self-explanatory in its description, and there is also the scene with Rachel (oversized plaid shirt and shorts), Monica (oversized shirt and comfy pants), and Phoebe (a striped onesie) in their pajamas being sad and spying on George Stephanopoulos.

As for the guys, the standout options include the iconic "In The Jungle" scene, with Ross' red shirt, white tee, and beige trousers, Chandler's big shirt tucked into smart pants, and Joey's sweater and jeans combo. There is no shortage of hilarity in Santa Claus, Superman, and Holiday Armadillo for something more out there.

Pairs

The show also has a plethora of great paired costumes for friends and couples to try out. You can just combine any iconic fit with another from the show, but a couple of specific outfits stand out in pairs.

As the pink bunny with a Spud-Nik Ross, Chandler is great, with the latter standing on its own if need be. Chandler and Joey, with their baby gear as they hunt for Ben, are another. For guys and girls, Rachel and Ross, in the final, did she get off the plane scene is a solid choice, with the two drunk in Las Vegas a funnier option. There are obviously more; coupling either friend with another pretty much always works if you are dedicated enough to choose the right fit.

Phoebe & The Smoke Alarm

Friends Phoebe Buffay with her Fire Alarm

Phoebe Buffay's usual attire of quirky guitar player in the early seasons or one of her stunning dresses throughout the years is all terrific, even if she does not have as many memorable or iconic ones as, say, Rachel.

But one of Phoebe's standouts that would make for a great Halloween costume is the smoke alarm episode. It is a simple costume, yet one that not everyone will immediately recognize, needing only a white and polka-dot pajama set and a torn apart smoke alarm.

Ross & His Leather Pants

Ross with his leather pants down calls Joey from the bathroom in Friends

Over the years, Ross Geller has become one of the most hated characters in pretty much all of sitcoms, perhaps diluted by the fact that Ted Mosby is an even worse version of Ross.

Nevertheless, Ross is a crucial part of the show and has a good selection of outfits for Halloween. However, by far the funniest and bravest option would be to go as leather pants Ross, with the choice being yours of going simple with just tight leather pants, a black shirt, and a whole load of hair gel, or by adding baby powder and lotion to the mix, or even just one of those two components.

Monica In Barbados

Ross's sister seems to be held in higher public regard than him, and in terms of outfits, Monica certainly has some early seasons iconic outfits that challenge even the likes of Rachel.

However, for Haloween, the best option is a late-season option, that being Monica's humid time in Barbados. This outfit can go two ways, puffy curly hair with a cap and ping pong paddle, or shell hair in a braid; either way, hilarious on Halloween.

Chandler & His Many Sweater-Vests

Chandler Bing is undoubtedly one of the series's most consistently great characters, not only being hilarious but actually having a lot of organic character growth over the show's course.

In early seasons Chandler is many people's favorite versions of any Friends characters, and while Chandler does have some singular great outfits, his iconic sweater-vest, shirt, and pants combo is hard to top; pick an episode, pick a color scheme, and roll with it.

Joey & The Opposite Of Hiding Underwear

Joey wearing all of Chandler's clothes

Chandler's partner in crime, Joey Tribianni, is never far behind the funny man of the series, and himself probably has the least amount of iconic fits of the main cast, with standouts being his leather jacket-wearing early years or Dr. Drake Ramoray.

However, Joey does have one of the best wardrobe moments in Friends history, doing the opposite of hiding Chandler's underwear, instead, wearing all of his clothes. It will be a warm and difficult task to pull this off, but a pretty legendary one too.

Rachel Greene At Central Perk

Friends Rachel as a waitress

Fans of Jennifer Aniston's Rachel Greene are spoiled for choice when it comes to Halloween. Every outfit from her time in the show is adored by fans and would be great for Halloween, from her going away outfit in the final episode to her cheerleading costume.

But, few top Rachel's outfits throughout her time at Central Perk. An apron combined with one of Rachel's many wardrobe pieces, pretty much always some sort of shirt and skirt combo, makes for the perfect, easy, Rachel Greene dress-up.
