Today, publisher Gun Media and developer Illfonic issued patch notes for the final Friday the 13th: The Game update, which is scheduled to go live across all platforms on May 4. Friday the 13th has wrestled with legal woes throughout the last several years, troubles that continue to grind Jason Voorhees' much-coveted return to a halt.

Naturally, ongoing legal rights disputes between franchise producer Sean S. Cunningham and the first film's scribe, Victor Miller, adversely impacted Illfonic's interactive project not long after its May 2017 release. Due to the Hell Friday the 13th remains trapped in, the development team had to cancel the vast majority of its post-launch plans for the asymmetrical multiplayer game. DLC add-ons and the like fell to the cutting room floor, for example. Friday the 13th: The Game's dedicated servers will soon bite the bullet, too, since yet another nail is being driven into the digital Jason's watery grave.

The latest post on the F13 Game Forum features a list of patch notes for what constitutes Friday the 13th: The Game's final update, which Illfonic plans to deploy across all platforms on May 4 at "roughly" 10:00 am ET. With this last patch, the developers tackled as many lingering issues as possible. Thus, players can expect Combat Stance changes, including a fix that addresses Jason's ability to run while in Combat Stance. The forthcoming update also resolves a glitch that allows players to increase the size of weapons. All Pocket Knife troubles should be stamped out, as well. Jason and Counselor gameplay tweaks are additionally on the horizon, while matchmaking transitions from dedicated servers to peer-to-peer matchmaking for all matches.

Fortunately, none of the above spells complete doom for the multiplayer experience's future. Peer-to-peer matchmaking means players can still hop online for public and private matches following the patch's imminent release.

The final update does put a bow on Friday the 13th: The Game, though. Whatever issues may crop up in the months or years ahead won't be resolved. Thus, the title as it stands come May 4 will be what remains of an experience whose promising potential fell victim to circumstances that no one could've predicted.
