Friday the 13th: the Game won't be getting any more content, thanks to the ongoing dispute over the rights to the franchise. The game released last year from Illfonic and Gun Media, and offers up asymmetrical multiplayer horror gameplay, with one player taking on the role of Jason Voorhees and the others acting as the camp counselors trying to survive.

The title picked up a lot of interest before release, but unfortunately at launch had a lot of technical problems which saw players get frustrated. Over time, the development team has been able to improve things considerably, although there are still missing features that were initially promised and the sense that the game did not quite live up to expectations.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely that the game is going to pick up any further content to keep its player base entertained further. As revealed by Bloody Disgusting, the game has become embroiled in the vicious fight over the rights to the Friday the 13th property as a whole, and the end result is that there will be no movement towards any further additional content for the game.

"As many in our community may be aware, a legal claim has been made which could affect all future Friday the 13th intellectual property," stated publisher Gun Media. Previously, the game had not been affected by the lawsuit, but that has all changed now, and until "the claim rights can be dismissed or resolved, no new content can be released." This means that the game will not be getting any new game modes, Jasons or counselors, and any new maps are also out of the window.

This could put a serious dampener on the success of Friday the 13th: the Game. These kind of multiplayer titles rely on being able to give players a steady stream of content, and with the rights issue now in limbo, it means that Gun Media and Illfonic will have a very hard time keeping the game's user base interested in the long term.

It's not just the game that has been put on indefinite hiatus, either. Of late, attempts to reboot or continue the Friday the 13th franchise in movie format have also faced issues, and the blame has been put solely on the rights dispute. Hopefully, things will be resolved soon, and fans of the game will start getting some more content quickly.
