It seems like nearly every show is getting the reboot treatment these days, so is Friday Night Lights next? While the show often struggled with ratings, it had a rabid fan base that allowed it to last five seasons. That might make it the perfect candidate to be revived.

Friday Night Lights follows the townsfolk in the town of Dillon, Texas. The town happens to be home to one of the best high school football programs in the country. Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler) moves into town with his family to take over as coach of the team, which initially ruffles feathers. Throughout its five-season run, Friday Night Lights chronicled the interactions between. But eventually, the main cast, who comprise current and former players, fans, coaching staff came around to completely embrace his presence.

Friday Night Lights has been off the air for a decade now, making it the perfect time to bring it back on the air. But at the time of writing this article, there are no formal plans to reboot the show. But if that ever came to fruition, here's a look at what that might look like.

Will A Friday Night Lights Reboot Happen?

While fans are eagerly hoping that Friday Night Lights will be rebooted, one star isn't so sure that it will happen. Star Connie Britton doesn't see a reboot happening. As the show's approaching its 15-year anniversary, Britton told ET that she could see the cast coming together for a reunion to commemorate the milestone. But since Friday Night Lights was based on the 2004 film of the same name, Britton thinks that doing yet another iteration of the story would be odd. But Britton's opinion doesn't hold weight over whether or not the show could come back in a new way. If the Friday Night Lights creators see enough interest and feel that the time is right, there's no reason why they wouldn't reboot the show.

Friday Night Lights Reboot Cast: Who Would Return?

As Chandler's Coach Taylor was the heart and soul of the show, it'd be hard to do a reboot without his involvement. Significant members of the team like Matt Saracen (Zack Gilford) and Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) would likely need to return to inject some spirit from the original team into the series. It would make sense for Britton's Tami to return to a potential reboot, as she and Eric were committed as husband and wife. But given Britton's statement on the idea of a reboot, that doesn't seem likely. Having now A-listers like Michael B. Jordan or Jesse Plemons return to their roots to reprise their respective roles on Friday Night Lights would be a great way to give the show some star power as well.

Friday Night Lights ended with Eric moving away to Philadelphia with Tami so she could follow her own career goals. A reboot of the show could see his family either coming back to Dillon for him to resume his position as coach or temporarily coming back into town to pass the mantle off to a new coach. It would be particularly meaningful to watch Eric act as a mentor to one of his former players stepping up as coach of the team. From there, the show could follow the original structure of its predecessor, adding a few touches to make it unique.

Friday Night Lights fans waiting for a reboot or a season six will likely have to hold out for a while longer. At the time of writing this article, there are currently no plans to bring back the show in any way. Getting stars of the original series on board, coming up with a brand new idea for the show, and everything that goes into pre-production would take a long time. With all that in mind, fans likely have a years-long wait ahead of them, if a Friday Night Lights reboot is to happen at all. The odds may be low, but never say never — the show likely always has an avenue to return.
