The upcoming Crystal Lake TV show can finally integrate an essential aspect of the Friday The 13th franchise, which was inexplicably omitted from the first television series. Peacock has announced that its adaptation of Crystal Lake will be released in 2024, and will be a prequel series to the iconic slasher movie Friday The 13th. Released in 1980, the original Friday The 13th spawned a franchise spanning twelve movies and, now, two TV shows. Consequently, the forthcoming Crystal Lake can finally complete a storyline teased 30 years ago.

The first Friday The 13th TV show ran from 1987 until 1990. Though it shared some key crew members with the movies, such as long-time producer Frank Mancuso Jr., the original Friday The 13th TV show was not connected to the movies at all. Instead, the show followed an antique dealer called Lewis Vendredi, played by R.G. Armstrong, who made a pact with the Devil. Rumors that the biggest part of the Friday The 13th movies, Jason Voorhees himself, would appear unfortunately proved unfounded, but Crystal Lake has the potential to fulfill them.

Crystal Lake Can Have 1 Big Thing The Original Friday The 13th Show Missed

Jason Voorhees was the primary antagonist of the Friday The 13th movie franchise, and was completely omitted from the original TV show, despite rumors that he would appear. As Crystal Lake is set to be a prequel series, it will presumably depict the tragic events at Camp Crystal Lake that spawned the infamous horror icon. Crystal Lake can, therefore, realize the potential left unfulfilled by Friday The 13th: The Series.

Friday The 13th: The Series used the horror franchise's title to entice Friday The 13th audiences into its viewership. The result of this, however, was swathes of disappointed Jason fans who were hoping to have a serialized rendition of the classic slasher movie. Finally, this hope can be realized with Crystal Lake, which can explore both Jason's creation and his murderous exploits.

Crystal Lake Can Combine The Movie Franchise With The Original Show

Crystal Lake is in the privileged position of starting a fresh new story that depicts the consequences of irresponsible Camp Crystal Lake counselors for the first time on television. Intriguingly, Crystal Lake could also incorporate aspects of Friday The 13th: The Series as well. Crystal Lake could feature a storyline following Lewis Vendredi, and subsequently form a connection between the original TV series and the Friday The 13th movies. Handily, a satanic precedent has already been set by Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, meaning a link between Jason and the Faustian antique dealer could be retroactively established.

That would certainly tidy up Friday The 13th canon, and would also exploit the cult fandom the original TV show has since garnered. Despite the initial disappointment, Friday The 13th: The Series had moderate success, lasting for over 70 episodes across three seasons - one longer than its A Nightmare on Elm Street counterpart, Freddy's Nightmares. Much like Friday The 13th: The Series, Crystal Lake should take full advantage of previous successes, only this time featuring the unstoppable killer on whom the franchise is based.
