The success of Fresh Off the Boat saw it become one of the most beloved sitcoms on television as part of the ABC lineup. Six seasons showcased the journey of the Huang family starting a new life in Orlando. It gave us the first portrayal of an Asian family in the 90s with the timeline of the series. The characters from the show provided great memories for those to watch the show.

We will look back at the characters we will miss and those that didn’t leave as memorable of an impact. The stronger characters created a soft spot in our heats that we will miss seeing on television every week. Meanwhile, there were some that either took away from the show or just existed in the background. These are five Fresh Off the Boat characters we’ll miss when the show officially ends and five that we won’t.

Will miss: Louis Huang

Randall Park's hilarious and tremendous work as Louis Huang is just one of many things that turned Fresh Off the Boat into a hit. In the show, Louis is a loving husband and father trying to run his own steak restaurant as the inspiration for the family’s move to Orlando.

Louis' silly nature sees his feelings easily hurt and his ideas often quite creative. Park has become one of the top leading comedic actors in Hollywood thanks to his role in this series plus a some noteworthy films. Viewers will definitely miss seeing Louis’ antics with the family on Fresh Off the Boat.

Won’t miss: Honey Ellis

Honey is the nextdoor neighbor of the Huang family and Jessica’s best friend. There were some strong moments for Honey in the series, but they were few and far between. Honey was known mostly for being the sidekick of Jessica.

Sadly, the episodes that focused on Honey often missed the mark. The one-dimensional nature of her character saw Jessica walking all over her whenever they clashed. Honey would become a background player for most later season episodes, making her even less impactful.

Will miss: Eddie Huang

Fresh Off the Boat originally started with Eddie Huang as the main character. The young teenager was starting his new life in Orlando and attempting to embrace his passion for hip hop. Fans loved the story of Eddie before the other relatives started getting television time.

Eddie is still viewed as the heart of the show as it inches towards the end. In fact, fans are excited to see how the journey ends for Eddie, especially since he was the most relatable character in the entire series. Fresh Off the Boat will always have fond memories of watching Eddie’s character grow up.

Won’t miss: Deidre Sanderson

Deidre Sanderson is not a regular on Fresh Off the Boat, but she has recurred enough times to have a noteworthy role in the series. Most episodes will see Deidre clash with Jessica at the neighborhood meetings due to their differing views.

Jessica has no love for Deidre most of the time and will often try to undercut her at the meetings. Deidre just didn’t stand out well enough as the wacky sitcom foe. Characters like Newman and Gunther found success on sitcoms in this role, but Deidre didn’t provide the same appeal.

Will miss: Trent Masterson

Eddie’s group of friends from school remained a part of the series from the first season until the very last. Trent Masterson broke out as the character viewers most enjoyed seeing interact with Eddie at school and in the family situations.

The friendship between Eddie and Trent gives Trent the chance to work at Louis’ steak restaurant. Trent is a tremendous comedic character that showed superb chemistry with both Eddie and Louis. Even his fear of Jessica added fun, and we’ll miss him greatly when the series ends!

Won’t miss: Principal Hunter

Principal Hunter is the man in charge of Abraham Lincoln Middle School, where all three of the Huang brothers have attended at some point in the series. Jessica (more on her later) naturally becomes the rival of Hunter due to her desire to butt into other situations and demand her way win out.

The later seasons would see more of Principal Hunter due to Jessica’s journey to become a principal as well. He has his moments, but Hunter as a whole is a bit of an outdated character - specifically, the cowardly yet comedic authority figure who constantly gets made into a fool.

Will miss: Evan Huang

Evan Huang's brand of comedy made him arguably the funniest character in the entire series. Evan’s progression would show his relationship with Jessica continue to grow as he looks for his own personality and interests.

His genius mind sees him struggle to fit in, but he makes the most of his place in the family to help them out. Every sitcom needs one of the siblings in a family to provide the wackier side of the comedy. Evan’s greatness allowed him to shine most when put into uncomfortable yet hilarious situations.

Won’t miss: Emery Huang

Emery Huang was solid for a few seasons, but his role on the show saw him fall behind the other two brothers. There is nothing overly exciting or interesting about Emery. Things would work out for him naturally like finding cool friends, getting good grades and gaining love interests.

Unfortunately, Emery's good luck made him the least interesting of the Huang family characters. Emery does have his fair share of good moments. They just fall behind the others as he just wasn’t a memorable character in the grand scheme of the show.

Will miss: Jessica Huang

Constance Wu looking annoyed in Fresh Off the Boat

Constance Wu's star power only increased when she took up the lead role of Jessica Huang on Fresh Off the Boat. Everyone in the family has some level of fear associated with Jessica due to her strict and demanding parenting style wanting the best for her kids.

Jessica spends all six seasons bossing around her loved ones from Louis to the kids to her best friend Honey to even school employees. The hilarious character trait put her over the top as Wu clearly knew how to get the best out of it. Without a doubt, Jessica is the character from the series we’ll miss the most when the series ends.

Won’t miss: Marvin Ellis

Simply put, there was not enough depth to the character of Marvin Ellis in Fresh Off the Boat. Most sitcoms try to write a strong best friend for the lead character but in this case, Marvin lacked that as the best friend and next-door neighbor of Louis.

Despite being a generally kind guy, Marvin has his share of problematic moments making comments that no longer fly. The relationship with Honey was not even that interesting as a second regular couple. He's not a bad guy, but fans won’t Marvin as much as the other lead characters.
