A new trailer for Wes Anderson's upcoming film, The French Dispatch, shows Timothée Chalamet's student revolutionary character participating in a heated youth movement. Starring Anderson's recurring cast of actors (and a few newcomers), the movie is comprised of a series of vignettes centered around The French Dispatch, a section in a Kansas newspaper that reports on the intellectual life of a small city in France. According to Anderson, the film is a "love letter to journalists" and draws inspiration from his favorite publication, The New Yorker magazine.

In the teaser, released by Searchlight Pictures, Chalamet's character Zeffirelli is seen bickering with Juliette (Lyna Khoudri), a student revolutionary-turned-love interest. A noisy debate between undergraduate students and the university administration over what they deem a critical matter: the right to free access to the girls' dormitory for all male students. Frances McDormand's character, Lucinda Krementz, is a journalist profiling the student revolutionaries and inadvertently finds herself helping Zeffirelli write his manifesto. Chalamet and McDormand seem to have electric chemistry on-screen. It's been a big year for both actors, with McDormand's Best Actress win at the 2021 Academy Awards for her performance in Nomadland and Chalamet having wrapped production on the upcoming Netflix film Don't Look Up. The French Dispatch marks the pair's first collaboration, but after viewers got a sneak-peek of their hilarious bathroom scene earlier this year, it's sure to be far from their last.

After over a year's worth of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The French Dispatch debuted at the 74th annual Cannes Film Festival. So far, it's been met with great critical praise and even received a 9-minute long standing ovation after its initial showing. Anderson was intent on premiering his latest movie at Cannes, as the film takes place in the fictional city of Ennui-sur-Blasé and pays tribute to all things French. The long-awaited release of The French Dispatch, which hits theaters on October 22nd.
