Wes Anderson’s highly anticipated film The French Dispatch has just scored an official release date…again. The film, which has a delayed release due to the pandemic, stars a large ensemble cast of highly sought-after actors including Benicio del Toro, Frances McDormand, Elisabeth Moss, Jeffrey Wright, and Timothée Chalamet. This is in addition to many of Anderson’s frequent collaborators, including Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Bill Murray, and Jason Schwartzman, who will also appear in the film.

Reported by IndieWire, Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch will premiere in theaters on October 22 of this year, over a year later than its original (pre-pandemic) release date of July 24, 2020. The film will first premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in July and then at the 59th New York Film Festival this fall. Anderson brings back his usual crew for the project, including Robert Yeoman as the cinematographer and Alexandre Desplat as the composer.

This update is no doubt good news for Anderson's film. Now that COVID vaccines are starting to be distributed throughout the world, productions are able to restart, and studios can set realistic release dates again. Even though The French Dispatch has been delayed in the past, there's no reason why it can't stick to its October release date.

The French Dispatch is Wes Anderson’s follow-up after his last film, Isle of Dogs, which was released in 2018. The film aims to be a love letter to journalism, following a group of journalists working at a French outpost of an American newspaper set in a fictional French city in the 20th Century. The anthological film is inspired by The New Yorker, bringing to life a number of stories published in the fictional “The French Dispatch” magazine, that were modeled after real stories from The New Yorker.
