Sony recently announced the official lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus members that will become available for download in September 2019: Batman: Arkham Knight and Darksiders 3. This means that PS Plus subscribers only have a few more days left to download August's PlayStation Plus games: Wipeout: Omega Collection and Sniper Elite 4.

PlayStation Plus is a paid subscription service that allows members access to exclusive features on PlayStation consoles. These exclusives include early access to new games, beta trials, discounts in the PlayStation Store and free PlayStation games every month. Subscriptions run around $60 per year, but Sony often offers discounts to get new users signed up and existing users to extend their memberships. Although a PlayStation Plus subscription once included a variety of free PS4, PS3 and PS Vita games, the company recently decided to only offer two free PS4 games each month as of March 2019. That means that each month's offerings need to impress PlayStation Plus members enough to keep them signed up.

Fortunately, the free PlayStation Plus games for September should keep members happy. According to the PlayStation Blog, PlayStation Plus subscribers will get a free download of Batman: Arkham Knight. This popular game by Rocksteady, which released in 2015, is the third in the Arkham franchise. Despite some issues with the PC release of the title, it still managed to earn rave reviews. PlayStation Plus members will also get a free download of Darksiders 3, another well-reviewed action-adventure title that released in 2018. PlayStation Plus members can download both games for free from the PlayStation Store from September 3 through September 30.

PlayStation Plus September 2019

Although August's free PlayStation Plus games seemed to satisfy members, the games offered in July left many scratching their heads. Sony initially announced Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and Horizon Chase Turbo as the free games for that month. However, players complained that these two titles were underwhelming offerings, and, eventually, Sony swapped Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 with Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain. Although Sony never explained the reasoning behind the swap, poor reception to the original lineup likely had a lot to do with the company changing its mind.

It also seems like Sony has learned its lesson. Now that members only get two free games per month, Sony has to offer more impressive titles to its PlayStation Plus subscribers. August's free games were impressive. However, this month, members are getting two popular AAA titles that are sure to please anyone wondering if they should keep paying for the service.
