The latest trailer for Ryan Reynolds' upcoming action comedy Free Guy is here. In his latest adventure, Reynolds plays Guy, a sweet and unassuming bank teller who regularly gets beat up and held hostage. Why? He's a non-playable character in a violent video game. One day, Guy learns the truth about his existence and the world around him, which sets him off on a mission to save the game from being shut down. Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Taika Waititi round out the cast, and Shawn Levy directs.

The original plan was for Free Guy to roll out back in July, but the coronavirus pandemic put a stop to those plans. Now, Free Guy is slated for release in December of this year, though that could change. Movie theaters have struggled to pull audiences back in, and a few remaining 2020 movies recently vacated their spots (Black Widow, No Time to Die). For the time being, however, Free Guy is plunging forward with its December date, as shown with this new trailer.

A good ten months after its first trailer debuted, 20th Century Studios has revealed its second look at Free Guy. Not only does it reveal more of Comer's Molotov Girl and the world outside the game, it shows how Guy transforms from a standard NPC to a hero. Check it out down below.

Free Guy's second trailer puts a bigger spotlight on the relationship between Guy and Molotov Girl. While Guy exists firmly within the world of Free City, Molotov Girl has an alias out in the real world: Milly (also played by Comer), one of the game's programmers. Their relationship clearly shouldn't be possible, but the two will find themselves drawn together over and over as they fight to save Free City from being destroyed. This marks Killing Eve star Comer's first major feature film, and based on this trailer alone, she'll get some real opportunities to shine.

All in all, Free Guy looks like a lighthearted action flick with real heart. Director Shawn Levy previously spoke about how Free Guy can connect with all audiences through its message of recognizing those in the background, and it's evident Guy's journey from everyman to world-saving hero will reflect that. It's still unclear as to whether Free Guy will release on time, but if it does, it just might be the kind of earnest blockbuster people are looking for. After all, everyone could use a bit of optimism these days, right?
