Garena Free Fire, a popular mobile battle royale game from Garena, reportedly banned over 30 million hackers in 2020. The game launched in beta in 2017, and by 2019 Free Fire became the most downloaded mobile game in the entire world. In May 2020 the game experienced a record 80 million daily active users globally, reflecting a rapidly growing player base for the title.
2020 was a huge year for mobile gaming, with a number of titles receiving a ton of attention amidst the global pandemic and quarantine. Pokémon GO continues to experience success as the game approaches its five-year anniversary, with special events including a trip to the Johto region and brand new shiny Pokémon. PUBG Mobile, a portable version of the popular online battle royale shooter, also continues to received frequent updates as it continues its sixteenth season. PUBG helped to popularize the battle royale shooter genre, which has now become a staple of online shooter games.
The developer has revealed that 30 million hackers were banned from Garena Free Fire last year. A video posted to the game's Indian YouTube channel illustrates that more than 30 million accounts were banned for hacking, with 31 percent of those accounts being reported by other players. A majority of these accounts were banned for using auto-aim exploits, with significant portions also using wall-hacking or teleport exploits. The video concludes with a dedication to further anti-hack efforts in 2021.
With a huge number of gamers flocking to mobile games recently, it is no surprise that these titles are susceptible to hacks and exploits. Among Us, a cooperative free-to-play title by developer InnerSloth, released in 2018 but saw an enormous spike in popularity in 2020. Despite efforts from the developer, Among Us suffers from a number of cheats and hacks which players use to gain an upper hand in the tense spaceship experience. Bugs, cheats and hacks are continuously fixed in order to keep the game fair and fun for all players, but new exploits always seems to slip into these mobile titles.
Garena Free Fire has a massive playerbase, and a game with such popularity is bound to draw in hackers. Fortunately Garena seems to have an extremely effective strategy for identifying and banning cheaters, through both a vigilant playerbase and its own technology. Any game can be ruined by only a single cheater, so fans of Garena Free Fire can rest assured that their game is being defended by powerful anti-hack efforts.
Garena Free Fire is available now on Android and iOS.
