Despite his fate in Captain America: Civil War, Frank Grillo is now teasing a possible return for Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Grillo entered the MCU back in Phase 2 with the introduction of Brock Rumlow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The leader of Strike was a sleeper agent in S.H.I.E.L.D. for Hydra, but made a full recovery from a building dropping on him to become Crossbones.

Fans of this character were excited for the possibilities that the introduction of Crossbones could have on the MCU, but many felt shortchanged by his quick demise in Civil War. Well, things are not always what they appear to be, and Grillo is now teasing a new development for Crossbones' future.

While speaking to Forbes about being part of the Purge franchise, Grillo also discussed his time in the MCU and how much he enjoyed playing the part. In doing so, he appears to have let slip that he may not be done playing Crossbones as was previously believed. He didn't say how, when, or why he comes back into play, but the secret may now be out.

Captain America: Civil War - Frank Grillo as Crossbones

"It's great to be part of Marvel too, and I have three boys who are fanatical about Marvel, and I was surprised not too long ago because there is some news that nobody knows yet, to do with my character, that's going to be really interesting and I'm excited about that."

Back at the beginning of the year, Grillo stated that he was done in the MCU - following him publicly voicing his frustration with Marvel for not inviting him to the premiere of Civil War. Considering the bomb he had strapped to his chest exploded, many already assumed he would not return, but Grillo played with the possibility of his return by using the old thought process that if you don't see the body, they aren't dead.

If this is indeed a recent development, it could be an indication that Crossbones could come into play in Untitled Avengers. Theories are already running that Thanos could reset the MCU's reality in this film to change things up, so Crossbones could be revived in that process. Another possibility could be Thanos manipulating each of the heroes to show them their fears, and he comes back to haunt Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) for not being able to stop him before.

As great as it would be to see Crossbones return in full, one side villain can only be so lucky. If a building collapsing on him or his own suicide bomb can't kill him, then nothing probably can. In any instance, Grillo is well-liked in this role, so any opportunity to bring him back should be welcome.
