Fans of the X-Men were excited when it was announced that Dark Phoenix would be joining Fortnite's ever-expanding roster of crossover skins, but many X-Men enthusiasts couldn't help but wonder what other members of the X-Men could come next. Dark Phoenix isn't the first skin based on an X-Men hero to be added to Fortnite, with Wolverine, Storm, and Mystique having been added in Fortnite's Marvel-themed season, and Cable, Domino, Psylocke, and Deadpool joining later as part of an X-Force cross-promotion. While eight skins may sound like a lot for a cross-promotion, for hardcore X-Men fans, it's only a small taste of the massive roster of mutant superheroes that could join the game. In addition, there are still some glaring omissions from the roster, that X-Men fans and Fortnite players are no doubt eager to get their hands on.

There hasn't been a proper X-Men game to be released since the 2014 mobile game Uncanny X-Men: The Days of Future Past, and there hasn't been an X-Men game released for consoles since Activision's X-Men: Destiny. Since the new Skydance Marvel game likely isn't an X-Men game and Insomniac's new Wolverine game hasn't been confirmed to feature any other members of the X-Men, fans of the mutant superhero team may be waiting quite some time before they're able to step into the shoes of their favorite mutants in a game that's dedicated towards them. In the meantime, many fans have been trying to find ways to play as their favorite X-Men in various crossover games. While members of the X-Men are playable in several mobile games like Marvel Strike Force and in the Nintendo Switch's Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3Fortnite might be X-Men fans' best chance of getting to play as their favorite characters.

Dark Phoenix is Fortnite's first playable mutant character to become playable since the release of Psylocke, Cable, and Domino during the X-Force crossover in Fortnite: Chapter 2, Season 2. While Jean Grey's cosmic alter-ego is one of the X-Men's most popular and recurring characters, there are still several mutant heroes and villains that deserve a place in Fortnite's roster. There is still no word on whether more mutants will join the roster of existing X-Men and X-Men adjacent characters that are already playable, but Disney's relationship with Epic Games, which has brought over 30 Marvel skins to the game so far, means that there is plenty of opportunity for more skins to be added.

X-Men's Jubilee Has Sparked Some Fortnite Rumors

Jubilee fireworks powers

For fans of the X-Men Animated Series from the 90s, there are few X heroes that are more iconic than Jubilee. This is partly because the show's events are often shown from her perspective, including the first episode, which tells the story of how she came to join the team. In the comics, Jubilee has gone from being a teenaged troublemaker to one of the X-Men's most reliable teammates, as well as the mother of Shogo, a baby who can transform into a dragon while in Avalon. In Fortnite, her iconic yellow trench coat and neon pink sunglasses would make for a distinctly perfect design for any X-Men fan with a nostalgia for the 90s. Her mutant power, which allows her to create multicolored sparks, could also make for some fun accompanying emotes.

Colossus Is A Heavy Metal Favorite For Fortnite

Piotr Rasputin, whose mutant name is Colossus, is a longtime favorite amongst X-Men fans. Having joined the team in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (the same issue that introduced Wolverine, Storm, and Nightcrawler) in 1975, Colossus has supported the X-Men through some of their biggest stories throughout the years and continues to be a major asset to the team. Colossus is one of the more high-profile members of the X-Men, having appeared in several of the live-action films, including a major role in Deadpool and its sequel. Colossus has also been playable in several video games, including being a launch character in Marvel Contest of Champions. His original exclusion from the roster of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 (despite being featured in the game's story) even caused enough fan upset that Koei Tecmo quickly announced that Colossus would join Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3's roster as post-launch DLC.

Colossus would work well as a skin in Fortnite thanks to his iconic skin covered in metal. His unique design would make for a standout premium skin that could entice players wishing to look their favorite hero. Colossus's ability to change from having regular skin to organic steel skin could allow Epic Games to give Colossus multiple variants on his skin, giving players further customizability with how they want Colossus to appear in-game. Colossus' appearance in the Deadpool films and his close relationship with Domino in Marvel comics also make him the perfect addition to the current roster of X-Force members in Fortnite already.

X-Men's Kitty Pryde Brings The Heart And Fire To Fortnite

Katherine "Kitty" Pryde is another longtime member of the X-Men. Starting as a young student at Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Kitty Pryde trained under many of the X-Men's most prolific members, until she became a teacher herself. Once Charles Xavier began a new mutant nation on Krakoa, Kitty Pryde took over the mantle of Red Queen in the Hellfire Trading Company, leading the Marauders on adventures to help struggling mutants around the globe.

Often referred to as the heart of the X-Men, Kitty would make a fantastic addition to Fortnite's roster of playable heroes. Kitty also had a romantic relationship with Peter Parker in the Marvel Ultimate Universe and could team up with him once again since Spider-Man recently joined Fortnite. Also, since Kitty rarely travels without her trusty dragon, Lockheed, it could be the perfect opportunity for Epic Games to make an accompanying pet for the hero.

Rogue & Gambit In Fortnite Could Be An Unstoppable Dynamic Duo

Cover of Marvel's Rogue and Gambit 2

Rogue and Gambit have a lot in common. Apart from their enduring romantic love for each other, both are roguish heroes with suave attitudes and dangerous powers. They are also both characters that owe a lot of their popularity to the 90s X-Men animated series. Gambit, whose iconic look has made playable appearances in games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 & 3, would make for an excellent addition to Fortnite, with his energy staff also included as a pickaxe skin. Rogue, who is arguably the more popular of the two, having been a main character in the live-action X-Men films, hasn't been playable in nearly as many games as Gambit but is still an indispensable member of the team that many fans would love to see.

Iceman Would Be The Coolest Mutant In Fortnite

Iceman and the King in Black's dragon army

Iceman is one of the original five members of the X-Men team (along with Cyclops, Angel, Beast, and Marvel Girl/Jean Grey), and is one of the team's most powerful members. Bobby Drake has the ability to create ice (which he can use as a weapon or a shield for his body), which would fit in perfectly with Fortnite's new icy map. As an Omega Level Mutant, Iceman's powers are unmatched in their field, with his ability to create ice being nearly limitless. Unlike the other four original members of the X-Men, Iceman has little respect for authority and uses his own moral compass to guide his actions. While many of his enemies tend to underestimate him due to his jokester personality and devil-may-care attitude, when Iceman feels a cause or mission is important, there is no better hero for the job.

Iceman has appeared as a playable character in a surprising number of video games in the past, including both X-Men Legends games and all three Marvel Ultimate Alliance games. Similarly, to Colossus, Iceman's ability to encase himself in ice could add an opportunity for Epic Games to add multiple skin options for Iceman. His iconic ice slide ability could also make for an interesting glider option, allowing him to ice slide down from the Battle Bus and into the map.

Cyclops Is The Ultimate X-Man Who Could Appear In Fortnite

Cyclops X-Men cover

When it comes to shaping the X-Men team, no one (save perhaps Charles Xavier) has been as influential as Cyclops. As the first member of the X-Men and its longest-serving member, Cyclops has gone from being a scared student who couldn't control his mutant ability, to a confidant leader and master tactician. Cyclops has spent his life fighting tirelessly for mutant kind, with many regarding him as the ultimate X-Man.

As X-Men team members go, none are more deserving of a spot in Fortnite's roster as Cyclops. Not only does he help define what it is to be a member of the X-Men, but he also has two members of his family already in Fortnite. His son, Cable is playable in Fortnite already, and his wife, Jean Grey, was recently added as Dark Phoenix. Cyclops' optic blast could not only make for a cool emote, but a limited-time visor weapon could allow players to utilize his optic blasts in combat.

X-Men's Jean Grey Is More Than Just Fortnite's Dark Phoenix

Jean Grey walking through a Krakoa portal.

While Jean Grey fans were no doubt excited by her surprise appearance in Fortnite, Jean is more than just the Dark Phoenix, and Fortnite should acknowledge that by giving Jean her own skin, separate from her Phoenix Force that she has always struggled to control. While it would be fantastic to see a green version of her Phoenix costume as an alternate selectable skin, it would be even cooler to see her take on the mantle of Marvel Girl once again, as she has in the comics. Her green and gold dress or her X-Men Red costume would make for great skins in Fortnite.

This list only scratches the surface of X-Men characters that could join Fortnite. Other favorites like Beast and Nightcrawler would also make great additions, along with classic X-Men villains like Magneto and Sabretooth. The only downside to the inclusion of Marvel fans' favorite mutant heroes as skins in Fortnite is that players won't have access to any of their mutant abilities in-game. While this is understandable considering how overpowered these abilities would be in Fortnite, it would still be cool to see some of the characters using those abilities in combat. Perhaps limited time modes or weapons could make their inclusion a possibility. Regardless of whether they have their abilities or not, seeing more X-Men heroes being included in Fortnite would be a dream come true for many fans of both franchises.
