An upcoming crossover between The Walking Dead and Fortnite has potentially been leaked online. Fortnite, a popular battle royale shooter from developer Epic Games, has become well-known for its multiple pop culture crossovers in recent years. The Walking Dead is a post-apocalyptic zombie television series, based on an Image Comics series of the same name, which began back in 2010.
Fortnite has become well-known for its crossovers with various other films, television, and video game franchises. A previous Fortnite and The Walking Dead crossover titled the Survivors In Arms set was launched back in December 2020, after an initial trailer was revealed at The Game Awards 2020. The set includes two character skins, allowing players to drop into the battle royale as Walking Dead protagonists Daryl Dixon and Michonne. The skins come complete with Daryl's knife and Michonne's katana, letting players complete the heroes' iconic appearances.
A possible leak, reported by Comicbook.com, suggests that an additional Walking Dead collaboration may be coming to Fortnite in the near future. The information comes from HYPEX, a Twitter user well-known for leaking Fortnite events and updates. The supposed crossover is said to be arriving next month, and it will include a customized glider for players to use as they drop into the game. HYPEX also suggests that the first crossover only featured Daryl and Michonne because additional characters are being saved for this second update.
Alongside The Walking Dead, a large number of other pop culture figures have made their way into the cartoony world of Fortnite. The latest in-game collaboration is a Creative Mode map based on M. Night Shyamalan's Old, a thriller recently released by the mind-bending director. The new Fortnite map follows the film's basic premise by stranding players on an island and tasking them with gathering resources to escape. The movie's island setting rapidly ages those who find themselves there, and the Fortnite map reflects this idea by including a time limit for players to escape. Despite the divisive nature of M. Night Shyamalan's films, including Old, the new game mode is a fun and creative tie-in to the movie's interesting premise. A much different Fortnite crossover recently arrived in the form of the Ferrari 296 GTB, a high-end sports car that players are able to locate and drive within the game's world.
Fortnite has built a name for itself through a series of entertaining and high-profile crossovers. From John Wick to The Avengers, countless pop culture icons can be seen within the battle royale world that Epic Games has built. While an additional crossover with The Walking Dead has not been officially confirmed, few fans will be surprised if the rumored collaboration comes to fruition.
