A new player-shot video proves that the UFOs added to Fortnite's latest season can be used for creative, sometimes practical kills and destruction. All that's needed, it seems, is capturing one of the craft and developing some good timing.

Chapter 2 Season 7 of Fortnite sports an alien conquest theme, reflected in many different aspects of gameplay. The map for example now includes landmarks like satellite dishes, and a central zone called the Aftermath where the Spire used to be. Patrols and parasites are potential threats, and one of the perks of the Battle Pass is Kymera, an alien character with a customizable head, eyes, skin, and armor. Higher-tier players will eventually be able to unlock the world's most famous Kryptonian, Superman, in Fortnite, as well as Rick Sanchez from Rick & Morty.

The video, uploaded by Fazbear_Fighter on Reddit, shows a player using a UFO's tractor beam to pick up a large boulder. They then whip it towards a ground-based enemy, killing the person instantly. The tactic is possible because the beam is able to lift many different objects and players - capturing a UFO may actually be the harder part since the ships are scattered around Fortnite's map and have to be shot down to assume control. Once in the cockpit, it's possible to hover in place, giving enough time to line up a shot.

More such kills will probably be caught on tape as the season progresses. Fortnite has never had an identical mechanic before, meaning that even veterans are probably still adjusting to flight controls. They may also prefer to use the UFO's other weapon: an energy cannon. That gun is more effective against structures than people, though, so the potential lethality of the tractor beam can't be ignored. Some players will presumably want to score bowling kills for the novelty of it.

Barring a surprise extension, Fortnite Season 7 is currently scheduled to end on September 12. More content is set to premiere throughout the season, such as the Superman unlock, which is only coming in August. Depending on how the UFOs play out it's possible that Epic Games could be forced to nerf them or offer better countermeasures - the game does have a handful of new weapons already, namely the Pulse Rifle, Rail Gun, and Kymera Ray Gun. The Rail Gun in particular might be useful against spacecraft since it's a chargeable instant-hit option. In the meantime, it would be wise to keep watching the skies.
