With the ability to swing through Fortnite’s new island as Spider-Man, some fans are starting to make comparisons between the new Epic Games hero and Marvel's Avengers' Spidey. Fortnite has entered its third chapter, introducing new game mechanics and confirming Spider-Man's addition to the battle royale. Players can now experience tornadoes, thunderstorms, and other weather events randomly occurring throughout the island.

Spider-Man’s inclusion in Fortnite Chapter 3 leaked ahead of his official reveal, with the character joining the likes of Carnage and Venom introduced toward the end of Chapter 2. More of Spider-Man’s allies and foes may be on the way based on various Easter eggs throughout the new map too, with Spidey's exact role in the game yet to be revealed. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s inclusion in Fortnite also leaked before his confirmation as The Foundation in the Chapter 2 finale trailer. However, fans speculated that the box office star was Fortnite's The Foundation long before the leak.

Twitter user YassinLNey shared a video showing off Fornite’s version of Spider-Man's web-slinging using the new Web-Shooters. In the video, YassinLNey’s character is dressed as the masked hero, and is seen dynamically swinging through the skies using various objects with a surprising amount of fluidity. Fans quickly compared the web-swinging to the version seen in Marvel’s Avengers, with multiple users sharing the opinion that Epic's Spider-Man has better animations and movement than the Spider-Man seen in Crystal Dynamics' Marvel's Avengers. "After Fortnite did such a great job, you can't defend the god awful web-swinging in Marvel's Avengers," tweeted KillerTacos54, while ltburns108 asked: "How does Fortnite have better a better spiderman than avengers?"

The comparisons between Fortnite's Spider-Man and Marvel's Avengers come in part due to their close releases. Marvel's Avengers added Spider-Man as a PlayStation exclusive hero in November, which also drew comparisons to Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man series. It is easy to see how much more fluid and lithe Peter in Spider-Man on PS4 than his alternate universe-version in Avengers when placed side-by-side, though Insomniac praised the overall look of the wall-crawler. Between Fornite and Avengers, however, the same could be said. Players will run along the ground and do acrobatics while attached to an actual object in the environment in the former—the latter does some awkward-looking twists and attaches webs to an invisible point in the air. It is more reminiscent of the Amazing Spider-Man games during Andrew Garfield's stint during the first Spider-Man movie reboot.

The Spider-Man animations in Fortnite have given players hope for the action-packed new chapter, and there's still plenty more to come. The new content is already off to a strong start, not just impressing with Spider-Man, but also with The Rock and an entirely re-worked map. According to Epic Games, Fortnite Season 3 saw the most players logging in to play the first day of the new season in the game's history, and the future is looking bright for the free-to-play shooter.
