Fortnite's Season 8, Week 2 challenges have leaked ahead of schedule thanks to the dataminers over at the /r/FortniteLeaks subreddit. While they're still unconfirmed, challenges tend to leak at a fairly frequent basis, so players can take a look at what's on offer and get a sense of what to prepare for when Week 2 begins on Thursday, March 7.

Fortnite's Season 8 offers a lot of new elements to the game, including the addition of locations such as Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Steps and in-game concerts. These areas have a distinct pirate theme to them, which is pushed further by the addition of the Blackheart undead pirate outfit available to Battle Pass purchasers. Fortnite also controversially added a new ping feature that is reminiscent of the one found in Apex Legends, one of the first indications that developer Epic Games has been looking to Respawn Entertainment's battle royale title for inspiration after the latter's successful first month.

Fortnite's Season 8, Week 2 challenges don't offer much in terms of variations of the norm, although that's to be expected from a system many players feel is at least a little underwhelming in difficulty. Still, it helps to be prepared, so here's a quick rundown of what challenges players can expect this Thursday, courtesy of the hard-working members of the FortniteLeaks community:

  • Deal damage to falling supply drops
  • Deal damage to opponents with a Pirate Cannon
  • Eliminations in Salty Springs or Haunted Hills
  • Search a chest in different named locations in a single match (exact locations unconfirmed)
  • Gain health from Apples and Med Kits
  • Land at: The Block, Dusty Divot, Polar Peak, Snobby Shores, Paradise Palms
  • Visit the furthest North, South, East, and West points of the island

If nothing changes, those will be the challenges that await Fortnite players later this week. Outside of one challenge that doesn't have its specific locations named yet, the rest are fairly straightforward and self-explanatory. Dealing damage to supply drops used to be difficult, but now that they appear on the map, it's a much easier challenge for casual players to complete. Of all the challenges, it appears dealing damage to opponents with a Pirate Cannon might be the most difficult, since the weapon can be sluggish at the best of times and frustrating otherwise.

While Fortnite's Season 8 isn't very different from what we've come to expect from Epic Games, the pressure may be on for the studio to deliver on Season 9 in a big way. Competition hasn't been a concern for Fortnite for quite some time, but Apex Legends is growing faster than Fortnite did at similar points in its life cycle and didn't even need mobile availability to break 50 million players in a single month. If there was ever a time for Fortnite to begin reinventing itself in places, now might be it, as the struggle for battle royale supremacy has gotten much more interesting since the beginning of 2019.
