One of the perpetual questions for any regular Fortnite player is when the current season will end and the next one begin. Each season of Fortnite offers its own Battle Pass items for the right number of V-Bucks, and even more casual players can expect map changes and other twists on the battle royale's usual formula. Presently players are in the middle of Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 6, but there may be clues to when Season 7 is coming.

Season 6's evolution has focused primarily on map changes, such as the addition of the Spire, and roaming animals that can be hunted or otherwise used to players' advantage. Weapons now feature a heavy crafting component, including the ability to turn Makeshift guns into Primal or Mechanical versions. This can even be done on the fly, using collected items in some cases to gain combat or defensive bonuses. As is pretty common, Epic has also added special rewards for Fortnite players who pursue side quests.

The end of Season 6 is currently rumored for June 8, according to ESTNN, which cites several leakers including HYPEX on Twitter. That date is unconfirmed, but would be consistent with Epic's typical three-month window for each season, and the fact that the current Battle Pass is due to end June 7. Delays have happened before - the company could (conceivably) discover unexpected bugs, have trouble getting assets ready on time, or even have to cope with unexpected security or capacity issues with its servers. Fortnite is one of the most popular games in the world, with millions of people often playing simultaneously - new content can potentially cause a crash.

What Could Happen If Fortnite Season 6 Is Delayed?

Fortnite Season 6 Battle Pass Characters

Some seasons have stretched on longer. The worst example was Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2, which ran for 17 weeks. Chapter 1 seasons of Fortnite generally ran 10 weeks, but Epic appears to have adapted a flexible schedule, presumably to take as much time as it needs for new features. In fact there are no firm rumors on what Season 7 will even include - one of the few likelihoods is more Marvel superhero crossovers as part of Epic's deals with Disney. Another is that the company will develop Fortnite's Primal storyline in a way that addresses the Spire and its guardians.

Epic did recently partner with DC for Batman crossovers, so it's possible that DC appearances will only pick up. Crossovers of all kinds have become de facto in Fortnite, among them properties like Tron and Tomb Raider. Occasionally the game has even hosted virtual concerts such as Kaskade, which can be especially useful for A-list artists trying to reach fans in a socially-distant way. No matter what, fans can rest assured a new season of Fortnite will be coming with lots of new content - likely sometime in June.
