The Nexus War has concluded, bringing Fortnite's Marvel-themed Season 4 to a close, but not before allowing players to pilot upgraded Battle Buses in order to defeat Galactus. As per usual, Fortnite pulled out all the stops in order to make its end-of-season event a smash hit, and now players are left eagerly awaiting the arrival of Season 5.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4 kicked off on August 27 of this year, introducing a large number of Marvel Comics' mightiest heroes to the game. Heroes like Iron Man, Wolverine, and Thor were summoned to Fortnite's Island due to Galactus' desire to consume the planet and destroy reality itself. Banning together, these heroes transformed The Island in an attempt to stop Galactus from devouring all of reality, but they would need to call on the players for help along the way. The past 14-weeks were all leading up to today's historic Fortnite crossover event.

The event started with Galactus rising above The Island, swatting away the players like flies. Luckily, Iron Man swooped in and explaining that he spent the season time traveling in order to build billions of kitted out Battle Buses in time for the World-Eater's arrival. Players were then given the ability to pilot these new and improved Battle Buses while fending off swarms of Gorgers. A Deathstar-like sequence put players in the trench-like arms of Galactus, where they dodged pylons and firing lasers while various heroes popped in to help the Battle Bus pilots along the way. The event ended with the player feeding Galactus thousands of bomb-filled Battle Buses, blasting him into another dimension and saving the day.

After the event concluded, players were taken to a screen with a countdown timer ticking away until the beginning of Fortnite Season 5. If players leave the screen they are kicked out of Fortnite and cannot relaunch the game until after Season 5 begins. In classic Fortnite fashion, teasers and clues have already started to roll out across Fortnite's social media pages indicating what may be waiting for players to discover in just a few short hours. While the map wasn't completely destroyed as many players had hoped, there will likely be a lot of new additions at the start of Season 5.

As far as end-of-season events rank, the Nexus War was one of the most interactive experiences that Fortnite has offered. Most seasonal events allow the player to control their character while watching a scripted series of events. While it's unlikely that players could have done anything to change how the Galactus event played out, it was still a unique experience to be able to fly and shoot from the cockpit of the Battle Bus. It will be interesting to see how Fortnite builds off this experience to improve its already fantastic live events.
