At the start of Chapter 2, Fortnite introduced new NPC enemies to Battle Royale that could be found around the map. These enemies usually fit in with the current season's theme and had special abilities and the potential to drop mythic or exotic loot. This is a feature expected to continue into the upcoming new season said to start in December.

Players had to constantly watch their backs for other players while trying to defeat the bosses. Once defeated, it was a race to collect all that high-rarity loot. These enemies proved not only very challenging to face but also a little bit scary.

Storm King

The Storm King was seen in Save the World mode but later added into Battle Royale for Fortnitemares 2019. A certain game mode called "Storm King" was created especially for this boss. Because it was such a task to defeat him, Epic was sending out real-life pin medals for those who succeeded before the event was over.

The Storm King was a gigantic beast, half cyclone with long horns on his head. He appeared almost like a cube monster but much, much larger in scale. This boss could dispense lasers of purple lightning at players. The only way to defeat him was to hit him in the few weak spots that he had. It was definitely not a task a player wanted to do solo and was much easier in a squad.

Cube Monsters

Cube Monsters were first seen as enemies in Fortnitemares 2019 but returned in the latest season. When first added to the game, these enemies could be found in the spawners spread across the map. More recently, in season 8, they can be found in the Sideways.

The Cube Monsters have evolved from their first appearance in the game into much more menacing enemies. The ones now found in the Sideways spawn varied in size and have different abilities. Some can explode when eliminated or in the proximity of a player, some leave behind toxic gas, and some can shoot crystal beams out in a ranged attack. Although they are not too difficult to defeat, the vast number of them hoarding players all at once makes it more of a challenge.

Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom entered the game in season 4 during the major Marvel crossover. He took over Pleasant Park, turning it to Doom's Domain, and could be found at two different locations there. Doctor Doom was one of the most recognized enemies added to the game, along with all the other Marvel and DC crossovers. He was also one of the scariest NPCs to try and face.

Because of the challenge to defeat him, players were drawn into his location, making it a race to get to him first. The task to defeat him was not an easy one either. Doom had the ability to shoot out arcane flames at players, lighting up the place on fire. He also had the ability to send out a mythical bomb that was one giant explosion, usually knocking players instantly if hit directly. If brave enough to try and take him on, players were better off doing it in a squad.

Predator

The Predator was added as another crossover in season 5. He was also a legendary playable skin that could be unlocked by completing bonus challenges. Players could find him at Stealthy Stronghold in proximity to the fallen drop pod. He was not only terrifying to look at with his mandibles and sharp teeth but also pretty hard to defeat.

The Predator was a scary enemy to face because he could turn invisible. Players would have to track him based on the monstrous noises he would make, which were extra terrifying when players couldn't locate him. He was really only visible when he came out of his cloaking to attack. Not only was he invisible, but he was swift. It made it very easy for him to sneak up on players and hit them from behind.

Ruckus

Ruckus was an NPC enemy found at Hydro 16, who would attack players as soon as they came in proximity to him. He also became a buyable skin in the Wasteland Warrior set later on. He almost resembled the psychos from Borderlands, and his blood-lust personality also resembled theirs.

Ruckus, at first glance, wasn't that scary of an enemy until approached closer, players could see him brandishing a rocket launcher.  He was highly destructive and dangerous due to the launcher. When attacked, Ruckus would enter rage mode, changing his appearance to a more menacing version. When defeated, Ruckus then turned into a ghost and became friendly.

Shadow Midas

Midas began as a boss in the second season of chapter 2, found at the Agency heavily guarded by his soldiers. He was quite difficult to boss to defeat. However, it wasn't until Fortnitemares 2020, when Midas became Shadow Midas, that he turned into a whole different frightening threat.

When Fortnitemares 2020 started, The Agency became The Ruins, and inside was a whole new shadow realm full of creepy shadow ghosts. Players could hear ominous whispers luring them into the basement of the base, and there Shadow Midas would be waiting to attack. Midas' voice was now distorted and reversed from regular Midas, and he wielded a shadow Drum Gun that swiftly dealt significant damage on players.

Glyph Master Raz

Raz was one NPC enemy that actually started as a friendly character in season 6. If following the main challenges, players would continue to report back to him frequently. After a certain point, Raz moved to the Spire and became Glyph Master Raz, an aggressive enemy instead.

Raz became an alarming enemy to fight. He had the ability to phase through walls and teleport, making it very difficult for players to escape him once the fight had initiated. Raz's main weapon was the Boom Bow which exploded on impact on players. He also had the ability to absorb players' health to restore his own. The number of shields and health he had made defeating him a tough challenge for the players.

Spire Assassins

Spire Assassins also entered the game in season 6 as Raz did. They could be found spread out across the map at different spire outposts. If spotted, they would signal in a distorted voice and instantly start to attack the players.

Much like Raz, the Spire Assassins were scary enemies to face due to their abilities. They could phase and teleport behind and in front of characters, making it almost impossible to escape from the fight. They also had a decent amount of shields that players had to get through before actually damaging them. Players could easily tell when they were coming upon an assassin due to their creepy celestial voices.

Cube Assassin

The Cube Assassin entered the game in the most recent season. She could only be found when entering a Sideways anomaly and defeating the prior waves of cube monsters. Her face has no human resemblance, made only of void crystals, making her quite the daunting enemy to behold.

The Cube Assassin spawned in after players destroyed the waves of cube monsters in a sideways anomaly. She had the ability to dash from spot to spot, making it hard to get a good aim on her. She also had extra shields to get through before players could cause damage. There was no use in trying to run out of the anomaly to escape her because she could follow players out, forcing them to fight her.

Caretaker

The Caretaker entered the game in the most recent season, season 8, just like the Cube Assassin. He was perhaps one of the scariest enemies added to Battle Royale so far, simply from the scale of him.

The Caretaker had the ability to roam freely around the map but has certain spawn points he seems to start in each match. Players could spot him on their maps at all times during the game, giving them that option to try and face him. He appeared like a cube monster but scales well over the player size. When he spotted players, he had the ability to create an anomaly to draw them in, trapping them into fighting him. He had various attacks that dealt major damage to players, making it better to try and avoid him as much as possible.
