Cosmetics are the lion's share of Fortnite's revenue, with over a thousand skins available to date. Fortnite's cosmetic collaborations are constantly adding fun new visuals and animations to the game, and even Fortnite's own original content often ends up in high demand from players. There are character skins, weapon skins, pickaxes, and gliders for players to choose from. Collectively, these cosmetics are purchased millions of times every year.

As a result of the high volume of cosmetic purchases in the game, there are plenty of instances wherein players accidentally purchase a cosmetic, or regret doing so after seeing it in-game. Additionally, due to their younger audience, there are many instances of parents having to refund cosmetics that their children purchased without their permission.

Luckily, Epic Games is understanding of these predicaments, and has an efficient "Return Request" process for getting refunds on these online cosmetics. It is important for players to familiarize themselves with this processif they don't end up liking the product.

How to Use Return Requests to Refund Cosmetics

Fortnite's cosmetic refund screen.

Just in case players aren't too happy with their Rick Grimes Fortnite Skin, Epic Games has given any player that purchases anything using their in-game currency "V-Bucks" access to three Return Request Tickets. These are used to get refunds on items that are purchased in-game. It isn't a request process that forces players to wait for a response from a company overloaded with consumer requests. As long as a player has refund tickets left, they can get a refund for any purchase.

The process for redeeming these tickets is simple:

  • Open the Main Menu and go to "Settings"
  • Hit the "Account And Privacy settings" option
  • Select "Submit a Request" pick the item for which you want a refund.
  • Click "Submit Return Request" and select "Yes" to get the refund.

Keep in mind that the three tickets are all that players will get for a year, and they do not get more by purchasing more cosmetics. Once a purchase has been made, a player gets three tickets, and can only get refunds three times until they replenish 365 days after the first ticket was expended. This is still a pretty decent return policy, and it is refreshing to see a game developer make returns easy, even regarding their most lucrative revenue source.
