The Nexus War has concluded, with the players of Fortnite teaming up with Marvel heroes to defeat Galactus, and the game's servers have gone down until the beginning of Chapter Two's fifth season. While not nearly as long of a down period this time around, it does bring up the question as to whether or not fans will finally see the return of the original Fortnite map in some form.

Fortnite's fourth season was entirely based around Marvel, as classic superheroes arrived on the island and Tony Stark prepared for the arrival of the Destroyer of Worlds. When Galactus finally arrived at the island, he began absorbing energy from the Zero Point, which originally attracted his attention at the end of Season X and has been the core of the game's underlying story. Thanks to Iron Man, players loaded up into the Battle Bus and defeated Galactus in what was a pretty incredible event. Similar to the black hole, the game then went to a black screen, indicated some sort of problem with the simulation, and revealed a timer counting down to Fortnite season five with a promise to continue the story then.

The last time Fortnite shut down entirely like this, players arrived on a completely brand-new island, and it's not unreasonable to think that the same thing might happen here. Galactus interfering with the Zero Point is definitely going to have ramifications, and a mish mash of the game's two maps would make a lot of sense. Players have desperately wanted to see the return of Fortnite's original island, and while it's unlikely that Epic Games would completely ditch the Chapter Two map, they could bring some of it back. Replacing less popular locations like Lazy Lake with popular elements of the original Fortnite map such as Tilted Towers would go a long ways to not only appease the game's hardcore fanbase, but also reignite interest at a time where Fortnite's popularity doesn't feel quite as large as it once was.

What Fortnight Chapter 2 May Be Planning Next

Players won't have to wait long, as Fortnite is scheduled to be back up and running Wednesday morning. But over the course of the evening, the official Fortnite Twitter account will be teasing the game's upcoming fifth season. The first teaser clearly describes and sounds like a jungle. Whether this means there will be a jungle biome in the new Fortnite map, or if it's simply a buildup to whatever Agent John Jones is doing, remains to be seen, but players should keep an eye out for the final five Fortnite teasers to piece them together throughout the night. And it should make for another fun night for Fortnite fans.

Epic promised that this event would be big, and they delivered. Not only was the physical arrival of Galactus huge, but the potential impact on the game is massive. Twitch completely crashed as a result of interest and a huge change to Fortnite, like the return of the original map, could reignite what was once the most popular game on the planet.
