Epic Games has officially revealed Fortnite Chapter 3 and confirmed that Spider-Man, Gears of War characters, new mechanics, and many more will be part of the new revamp of the battle royale. On top of that, Fortnite is moving to Unreal Engine 5, making it the first commercial game to take full advantage of Epic's new engine. All of this makes Chapter 3 the most significant update to Fortnite to date and almost turns it into an all-new game.

Epic Games has been teasing the new event for quite some time now. It's been heavily suggested that Fortnite Chapter 3 would be an all-new game altogether, which makes sense. The Chapter 2 update gave Fortnite a graphical overhaul and added a bunch of new robust innovations with things like fishing, swimming, and more while also deepening the lore with all kinds of crossover events. Since launching in 2019, Fortnite Chapter 2 has taken the game from a basic battle royale to a proper multi-media affair, and Chapter 3 looks to take that all a step further.

The first trailer for Fortnite Chapter 3 has revealed a massive new map with POIs like the Daily Bugle. To go along with the map, Chapter 3 will also introduce Spider-Man with proper web-swinging mechanics, tornadoes, new wildlife, weapons, sliding, and much more. Epic has also confirmed it's bringing the game to Unreal Engine 5, but it's unclear what benefits will be allotted by the new engine. The Fortnite Chapter 3 trailer leaked prior to the Chapter 2 finale, giving fans a taste of what's to come in the new chapter ahead of its official reveal.

Fortnite Chapter 3 continues to refine the beloved battle royale in a significant way. Not only does it progress the story and all kinds of new fun cosmetic items, but it adds new mechanics to make the game more fluid and enjoyable to play. These are things that would normally be reserved for sequels, but it seems like Epic Games has found a way to keep Fortnite as a true live-service game while evolving it in a substantial way. Features like sliding will help gameplay feel more tactical and web-swinging adds a really wild new way to traverse the map.

A leak recently suggested that Fortnite will have a Matrix crossover later this month, likely to tie-in with the new film. This crossover will likely be one of the first new content drops in Chapter 3 and given the plot of the Matrix films, it's pretty fitting for Fortnite. As of right now, there's no telling what the rest of Chapter 3 holds in store for players, but this is a really exciting starting point for the next several years of Fortnite.
