The Marvel superhero Ant-Man has officially arrived in Fortnite. Epic Games' renowned online shooter has recently begun crossing over with various different franchises as part of the game's fifth season. Ant-Man is a popular Marvel character who first debuted in 1962 and has received newfound popularity due to Paul Rudd's portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For Season 5 of Fortnite various characters from across popular media, including films, video games and comic books, have been added to the game as playable skins. Two recent additions to the game's roster were Ryu and Chun-Li, iconic combatants from the long-running Street Fighter series of fighting games. The Alien franchise's Ellen Ripley and the terrifying Xenomorph were also recently added, following a leak.

A recent discovery by Twitter user and Fortnite leaker @VastBlastt was confirmed by the official Fortnite Twitter account, announcing the presence of Ant-Man. Throughout Season 5 portals have appeared around the game's map to tease upcoming character crossovers, and VastBlastt successfully decrypted the newest one. The portal shows the ground of a forest and contains the sound of scurrying insects, heavily hinting at Ant-Man's involvement. The minuscule Avenger's impending addition to the game was further hinted by Fortnite's official Twitter before his official confirmation; the company shared an image of previously-added Marvel heroes Cable, Domino and Psylocke. Hidden within the image, perched on Cable's arm, was a pint-sized Ant-Man.

Outside of film legends and comic book superheroes, Fortnite continues to receive even more unexpected content. Epic Games recently added a sea shanty emote to the game, allowing characters to bang a drum and sing a charming tune inspired by the game. The new emote is inspired by a popular internet meme that was started by TikTok user Nathan Evans, known for singing sea shanties on his channel, and many believe that the meme's presence in Fortnite has effectively ended it.

Season 5 of Fortnite has focused heavily on pop culture crossovers, so the addition of another Marvel hero is not particularly surprising. However, the use of Ant-Man in particular is a bit unusual due to the continued in-game absence of more popular heroes that may have been preferred by fans. Still, with a plethora of superheroes already present in the game, Fortnite fans are coming one step closer to having a complete Marvel roster available to use.
