Fortnite has had a lot of collaborations with Marvel over its lifetime, introducing a lot of characters from the publisher's comics and movie adaptations into the Fortnite universe through skins. While the initial crossovers were exciting to fans of both franchises, the hype has slowly died down over time. With that in mind, it might be time for Epic Games to start focusing on new franchises to bring into its battle royale.

The Fortnite-Marvel skin collaborations began in 2019 during Chapter 1 Season 8, when the Black Widow and Star-Lord character skins were introduced as a promotion for Avengers: Endgame. Since then, Epic Games has introduced more Marvel heroes and villains into Fortnite, including a mixture of well-known A-listers and more obscure characters While a lot of these skins are simply available through purchase in the daily shop, some Marvel skins got other treatment.

It's common to see Marvel skins whenever Fortnite's daily shop resets, including the newest Mary Jane character skin. However, Fortnite's skin roster is slowly starting to become saturated with Marvel characters. There are 45 of them in the game as of the time of writing, and with more on the way, it might be possible that Epic has taken its collaboration with Marvel a couple of skins too far.

Why Marvel Skins In Fortnite Are Becoming Too Much

Fortnite Marvel Characters

While it might be exciting to see a lot of popular Marvel skins in Fortnite, they are saturating the game's available rewards, including the Battle Pass. The last three Battle Passes in Fortnite have included a Marvel character as its "final" level 90 reward, with the most recent characters being Carnage, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange (with Prowler as a bonus reward). There isn't a shortage of Fortnite crossovers with other franchises, but players who aren't Marvel fans may find the game's current Marvel focus frustrating.

Fans of Fortnite may get tired of purchasing Fortnite's Battle Pass if the main selling point is a Marvel character, especially if these players aren't even Marvel fans to begin with. While all these comic-inspired Fortnite skins are great for Marvel fans, all of the Marvel attention could leave others burnt out. There are still plenty of other franchises that could crossover with Fortnite that aren't Marvel-related, and it would be refreshing for the level 90 reward of an upcoming Battle Pass to not be of a Marvel character.

In terms of successful non-Marvel crossovers, Naruto was another crossover that got a lot of hype and attention from Fortnite's community, so Epic Games should turn its attention to other franchises that might garner as much excitement. However, it does not look like Epic has any plans to deter from their route of producing Marvel skins, as there have been some leaks and rumors surrounding a potential Vision skin in Fortnite, and maybe even a Miles Morales one. The glut of Marvel and MCU-based content is sure to appeal to a wide audience, but if Fortnite wishes to remain fresh, it may wish to spotlight other franchises more regularly.
