Fortnite is currently in the middle of one of its biggest seasons yet, and the game has finally crossed over into Marvel's official canon universe. The fourth season of Fortnite's second chapter is entirely built around the Marvel brand. The battle pass features numerous Marvel characters like Thor, Iron Man and Wolverine, while others continue to come in through the game's store, with Blade being the most recent addition. As the season has progressed, several Marvel locations like Stark Industries and the Black Panther statue from Wakanda have also appeared on the island. And if players look the sky, there is a tiny little glimmer that can be none other than Galactus, surging towards the planet.

In the Marvel comics, the Heralds of Galactus are individuals sent through space to find planets for Galactus to consume. The most iconic character to hold this title is the Silver Surfer, but in the most recent Thor series, Galactus bestowed this title to the God of Thunder. In the fourth issue of the series, Thor leads Galactus on a mission to consume several planets, but before any of that happens, Fortnite manages to enter the timeline.

At the main menu in Fortnite, a special comic issue, Fortnite x Marvel: Nexus War, explains how Thor and the rest of his Marvel buddies made their arrival to the island. In the comic, Galactus sees one of Fortnite's rifts appear in front of him and immediately surges toward it, feeling a pull towards the island's power. In an effort to warn the citizens of the planet ahead of its destruction, Thor races through the rift and arrives on the island. Thor fights off some Fortnite characters and begins to lose his memory before calling to Sif to have more Marvel heroes sent to the island to defend against Galactus' inevitable arrival, and according to comic writer Donny Cates, it's all canon.

So yes, all of these Marvel crossovers in Fortnite are canon, as confirmed by Nexus War author Donny Cates. What happens after that? Well, nobody knows just yet. The Nexus War issue ends with the arrival of Marvel's heroes and the promise that the story would continue in Fortnite's fourth season. Players familiar with Fortnite's history of storytelling know that there won't be any sort of explicit explanation anywhere regarding the events of the story. Over the course of the season, updates to the island will continue to develop a subtle story as to what's going on. At this stage, it appears that Tony Stark is leading the effort towards building up the island's defenses against the looming threat of Galactus.

The Nexus War is coming to Fortnite and it could be the biggest event the game has ever seen. The roster of Marvel heroes already on the island is pretty deep, with several more still rumored to be coming. Fortnite is currently in the fifth week of the season and pending any sort of delay, the Nexus War could take place as soon as six weeks from now. How this event will play out and manage to get all of Marvel's heroes back to Earth-616 remains to be seen, but the one certainty is that Fortnite is now officially part of the canon Marvel universe; which apparently means that, whether a hot dog is a sandwich or not, it can wield Mjolnir.
