A leak has recently hinted at the possibility of a crossover between the popular battle royale game Fortnite and The Matrix by way of themed skins. Leakers regularly release information regarding new Fortnite skins, with a recent example being info about an upcoming Spider-Man outfit coming to Fortnite.
As a free-to-play game, Fortnite puts heavy emphasis on its live-service elements. These elements can include real-time in-game events and, most commonly, new skins and other cosmetic items available for purchase. Fortnite has represented massive properties like Marvel and DC Comics through these special-edition skins, and they can go a long way when it comes to getting players interested in playing the massively popular title. While the skins offer little in the way of actual gameplay changes, they can often shake things up through unique animations.
As reported by Games Radar, a new set of Matrix-themed skins could be on their way. This info comes from a well-known leaker going by the handle HYPEX, who accurately leaked previous releases like the recent Naruto-themed cosmetics drop. The supposed skins would be of series leads Neo and Trinity, and the drop is predicted to come to Fortnite in the second half of December. While not specified in the leak, it can be assumed that, like most other Fortnite cosmetics, these outfits will be available to purchase through the in-game store.
This should be great news for both Fortnite and The Matrix fans alike, as these skins should be coming right around the release of the upcoming The Matrix Resurrections, which is continuing the epic science-fiction story. The fact that these skins are rumored to drop around the release of the film lends further credence to the leak, as it would be a clever bit of cross-promotion. Last month, Fortnite unveiled Dune skins alongside the release of that film, so this type of collaboration is far from unheard of.
While the leak directly mentions Neo and Trinity skins, it will be interesting to see if and how the competitive game expands this theme with skins based on other characters; fans of The Matrix would no doubt love to get their hands on Morpheus or Agent Smith outfits, and including these other iconic characters would likely be a smart financial move for Fortnite. Even if the collab only features Trinity and Neo, though, it would still be an exciting release for gamers and sci-fi fans across the globe.
Fortnite is currently free-to-play on all platforms.
