Innersloth, developer of Among Us, has reacted with disappointment following Epic Games' inclusion of an Impostors Mode in Fortnite, which many claim is a copy of the hit indie game. Epic Games launched the time-limited Impostors Mode in Fortnite on Tuesday, with many people quickly pointing out its strong similarities to Innersloth's hit game. Several areas, mechanics, and even official terminology are practically the same as in Among Us, leading to criticism from fans, industry figures, and the indie developers themselves.

This is not the first time that others have capitalized on the success of Among Us. Ever since the title rose to prominence in 2020, there have been numerous knock-off games and shovelware copycats appearing in app stores. There have even been bootleg Among Us toys sold in stores, demonstrating just how popular the title has become over the last year - but contributing little to nothing back to the actual game's developer. Of course, this is not the first time that a high-profile game like Fortnite has taken direct inspiration from Among Us, but it's been called out as the most blatant.

Reacting to the inclusion of an Impostors Mode in Fortnite, several Innersloth developers have expressed their disappointment with a total lack of collaboration or recognition from Epic Games. Among Us' official Twitter account replied only with a "confused face" emoji to a fan question about whether or not the new Fortnite mode was given its blessing prior to reveal. Innersloth co-founder PuffballsUnited and designer Gary Porter questioned why the Fortnite developers were unable to make the mode more distinctive from Among Us, while Victoria Tran shared her dismay at the fact that Epic did not contact the team or credit Innersloth in any way. In general, Innersloth staff have seemingly accepted the Fortnite addition but indicate how strange it was that Epic did not reach out to them directly.

Despite the public outcry that's accompanied Innersloth's response, Fornite continues to land further deals for crossovers and skins due to its popularity and influence. A new leak has seemingly confirmed that Rick & Morty and Will Smith Fornite skins are destined for the battle royale title in the near future. Reliable insiders claim that a Morty skin is coming alongside a "Get Schwifty" emote, while Will Smith's Bad Boys-themed outfit will also be made available to buyers. The inclusion of Morty is not entirely surprising considering that a Rick Sanchez skin has already been available for some time.

Considering the fierce criticism that has been directed at Epic Games following the inclusion of Impostors Mode in Fortnite, it was almost inevitable that some Innersloth developers would speak out. What is more shocking, though, is that no one at Epic Games seemingly attempted to reach out to talk about a possible official Among Us collaboration, which seems especially odd considering other marketing deals the game has struck with rival publishers like Xbox and PlayStation.
