With the addition of snowballs in Fortnite Chapter Four, players have yet another unusual and wacky mechanic they can use to get an edge over their opponents. Made with little more than snow and some hard work, Fortnite’s new snowballs are useful for more than just snowball fights, allowing players to steamroll their enemies, crushing and flattening enemy structures with ease. While snowballs behave similarly to the boulders that were so common in previous seasons of Fortnite, they can also be created by players and used with potentially devastating effect wherever they see fit.

With new weapons such as Fortnite’s new Shockwave Hammer, players have plenty of ways to flatten their opponents in Fortnite Chapter Four. However, snowballs are by far the most unique. To begin making snowballs, players need to travel to the frozen wasteland in the northeastern part of the new Fortnite island. Despite the icy conditions and heavy snowfall, this part of the island sees plenty of foot traffic, with many players choosing new locations such as Brutal Bastion and Lonely Labs as starting points for their Fortnite matches. Players need to be in a location with snow on the ground to start building snowballs.

How To Make Snowballs In Fortnite

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 Players Hitting Snow With Harvesting Tool To Build Giant Snowball

After choosing some of the best landing spots in Fortnite this season, players can start building snowballs by striking snowy ground with their pickaxes and harvesting tools. By striking snow, players will gradually build a snowball up to a maximum size limit. Players can actually climb inside snowballs that are large enough by using the button prompt to interact with them. However, players should note that, unlike Fortnite’s vehicles, snowballs can’t move on their own. In order to get moving, players first need to strike the snowball in order to build momentum, before quickly interacting with it to hitch a ride.

Players can make use of snowballs in different ways, including as an unconventional method of launching assaults on enemy bases. Much like the weapons players can find inside Fortnite’s new Oathbound Chests, snowballs can devastate built structures, allowing players to attack fortified opponents by crushing through their defenses.

There are no restrictions on how many snowballs players can create, so skilled players can use them to break down defenses and use them as cover when approaching their opponents. At maximum size, snowballs have a hefty 1200HP, allowing them to absorb plenty of damage and protect players inside.

Finally, one great tip is for players to build their snowballs on steep slopes, so they can build extra momentum and speed when struck. This allows players to maximize the mayhem and destruction of their snowball-led assaults. Each new season of Fortnite introduces new mechanics and strange new consumables, including the new Slap Juice item, but snowballs make for a fun and rather festive addition to Fortnite just in time for the winter season.
