Apparently, Fornite will have a Ghostbusters-themed crossover during the Fortnitemares event, according to recent leaks. The annual Halloween celebration comes this year with a brand new game mode, which is actually fairly similar to seasonal LTMs available in rival battle royale titles, Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends.

Fortnite’s Halloween game mode is called Midas’ Revenge, during which players fight to be the last living team standing against hordes of spooky ghosts. Those who die turn into ghosts as well to hunt down and attack the remaining teams. Unlike similar zombie modes in the aforementioned games, in Midas’ Revenge, evil spirits can interact with the in-game world more as they have the ability to drive vehicles. While they can only use melee attacks, being able to ram a truck into a living player must be extremely satisfying as a ghost.

There might be a lot more to the Fortnitemares 2020 event in terms of Halloween-related content than already revealed, as it’s been recently hinted that there will be a possible Ghostbusters crossover. For starters, dataminers have uncovered mentions of the popular franchise in Fortnite’s code with Ghostbusters gear being in the spotlight. On top of that, the iconic car Ecto-1 has landed on the Battle Island resting in a garage under a cover, which is a scene oddly similar to the initial teaser of Jason Reitman’s upcoming Ghostbusters movie. When the car is attacked with a pickaxe, the vehicle makes its legendary horn sound - and disappears once hit a few times in a row.

It’s been recently confirmed that Fortnitemares 2020 while bringing back terrifying Halloween-themed weapons, is vaulting one of the most OP ones, which is the notorious Charge Shotgun. Its removal came to players as a surprise effectively splitting the community. There’re now those who praise the decision to recall the weapon and those who absolutely hate the recall and have begun hoping for a quick comeback for the gun. Charge Shotgun might actually be reintroduced someday as vaulted weapons do return on occasion after a significant rebalancing, but for now, Epic has no plans to share.

With Ghostbusters seemingly coming to Fortnite, it’d be an absolute pleasure to have the ability to unlock the iconic suits of Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore. On top of that, considering that vehicles are a major part of Fortnite’s gameplay, Ecto-1 should end up being a drivable car rather than just an enticing tease. Hopefully, Epic does even more than that with the Ghostbusters crossover, but until an official confirmation is shared, it is all just speculation.
