Epic Games announced today that singer J Balvin will be headlining Fortnite's in-game Afterlife Party concert in the final stretch of its Fortnitemares Halloween event on October 31. Fortnitemares kicks off today and features a spooky take on Fortnite's Battle Royale island. Players have access to new gameplay and challenges, as well as rewards and a special outfit in the Item Shop.

The Fortnitemares event, now in its third year, brings slain players back as Shadows to take out the remaining living players. Shadows have the ability to possess vehicles and use special powers in order to defeat their opponents. Fortnitemares 2020 also features Midas' Revenge, where the spy character from Fortnite Chapter 2 takes control of the Authority and teams up with Shadows to fight living players who dare try to take him on. From now until November 3, players can tackle special Fortnitemares challenges, including becoming a Shadow, to unlock Halloween-themed Fortnite skins and rewards like Midas' Shadow Wrap and a Smash O' Lantern Pickaxe.

On Halloween night at 9 p.m. ET, J. Balvin will make an appearance on the main stage in Fortnite's Party Royale mode, where players often gather together to enjoy special performances and movies. Epic Games announced in a press release that the singer will use XR technology, LED lights, and camera tracking to create an exclusive, one-of-a-kind virtual reality show. Additionally, SECH is slated to join J Balvin for a performance of their single "La Luz." Players who attend the Afterlife Party will unlock a J Balvin style of the Party Trooper Outfit, which will be available in the Item Shop until November 1. The concert will also premiere in Houseparty, Epic Games' face-to-face social network, and a rebroadcast is scheduled for November 1 on the main stage.

J Balvin expressed his excitement about the concert, noting that he's always on the hunt for new ways to reach fans. "Partnering with Fortnite is an out of this world way to perform a concert in 2020," he said in the press release. Likewise, Nate Nanzer, Head of Global Partnerships at Epic Games, agreed that J Balvin will put on an "unforgettable show."

Virtual concerts have become quite popular in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Fortnite seems to be the perfect platform as gamers from all over the world come together to compete in PvP combat. Although there was no Fortnitemares concert last year, Party Royale mode has already proven to be a successful venue for performances with Epic Games' three-week-long Fortnite concert series, with artists like Dominic Fike and Anderson .Paak. J Balvin is sure to bring the big event to an outstanding close.
