Fortnite’s new skins for the Fortnitemares 2020 event have leaked, giving players a glimpse of the Halloween-themed cosmetics being added to the battle royale this year. Fortnitemares is Fortnite’s annual Halloween event, which typically adds new skins and challenges to the game, giving it a festive, spooky makeover for the end of October.

This year, Fortnitemares will arrive in the midst of an already packed season of content. Fortnite is known for its many pop culture crossovers, and recently it’s gone all out bringing Marvel characters into the game. This season has seen Marvel comics stars including Iron Man, Wolverine, Daredevil, and Blade join the battle royale in some form or another, with some represented by skins and emotes, and others actually appearing as bosses in the game.

At least for a little while later this month, Fortnite will turn its attention away from Marvel superheroes and toward spooky seasonal festivities. Though Epic Games hasn’t officially announced a start date yet, Fortnitemares 2020 is expected to kick off within the next week or two, and players already have a hint of what it will bring. Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey shared four skin packs coming to Fortnite on Twitter during Fortnitemares. The Crypt Crashers Pack, Fanged Fashion Pack, and Ultimate Reckoning Pack all have a Halloween theme, with zombies and vampires taking center stage. The fourth, the Daredevil Bundle, was recently revealed by Epic as both a shop item and a reward for an upcoming tournament.

Like its annual birthday celebration, Fortnitemares and other holiday events are a way for Fortnite to keep players coming back for more round after round. The battle royale is still going strong after three years, despite stiff competition from games as varied as Call of Duty: Warzone and Fall Guys, which take the battle royale genre in very different directions from what Fortnite has to offer.

While Fortnite is facing competition from other popular multiplayer games, developer Epic Games itself is embroiled in a legal battle with Apple that could forever change not only its games, but the state of the game industry as a whole. For now, it’s making Fortnite harder to play on Apple platforms, but that hasn’t been enough to put more than a dent in the popular battle royale. As that battle rages on, players can continue enjoying the game more or less unabated, and soon, they’ll be able to do so in a set of new Halloween costumes.
