The aquatic-themed season three of Fortnite Chapter Two introduced a lot of really cool ideas to the game, but the Coral Castle location is the only one that still remains - and it has been an incredibly poor addition to the game. Every major location in Fortnite has some sort of benefit to landing there besides Coral Castle, which still provides zero incentive to the player in season six.

Following The Device event at the conclusion of season two, the Fortnite island was completely flooded. As a result of the high water level, the game gained several new water-based locations and a massive whirlpool appeared in the top corner of the map. As the water level dropped back to normal, the new locations disappeared and Coral Castle emerged from below the whirlpool. This cool Atlantis-themed location has a really pretty aesthetic, and its arrival was highly anticipated due to the DC Comics collaboration with Aquaman featured in the battle pass, but it has been nothing short of a disappointment.

Three seasons of Fortnite later, there is nothing positive to say about Coral Castle. There isn't enough opportunities to loot a good loadout and it's not a particularly great place to gather materials to prepare for the midgame. And once the player has ripped through this barren location, it's a nightmare to get out of. Coral Castle is surrounded by waterfalls and even if the player takes a boat, they aren't always the easiest thing to travel through. Fortnite players can opt to go up towards the crashed airplane nearby, but then they're stuck swimming upstream and will either have to find a boat anyway or take a detour into Sweaty Sands to find a car, likely backtracking towards the storm in the process. Fortnite's Coral Castle is so far out of the way and has so little loot that there's just no reason for players to ever drop there.

Fortnite's Coral Castle POI Needs to be Improved

Fortnite's Coral Castle POI is Still Terrible in Season 6

At this stage, it's incredibly unlikely that Coral Castle would be completely replaced. It's not nearly as good of a location as The Fortilla from the same season - the whirlpool that it replaced offered a much more interesting gameplay mechanic, and even The Shark was a much better location, yet Coral Castle has outlasted all of them throughout Fortnite's many map changes. Coral Castle needs stronger loot and more ways to get out of the pit it's currently sitting in, because it is a complete waste of space in its current form. Ziplines would be an easy addition to make and the return of helicopters from season two would go a long way in addressing this problem, but Fortnite could really use something new like a jet ski, allowing players to get on the move from such a distant location in a much faster water-based vehicle.

In a battle royale game like Fortnite, it's never good to have a location that isn't worth landing at. Each major location on the map should have a reason for players to want to drop there, and Coral Castle doesn't have any. Until something is done about this location, the upper corner of the map will remain the black hole that it is. Fortnite's Coral Castle needs to either be replaced with something better or receive changes to make it worthwhile location, because it's ridiculous that it has yet to receive any sort of improvement in three seasons that it's existed on the map.
