As Fortnite begins its newest chapter, Epic Games has released a ton of new mechanics, skins, and items to its iconic battle royale, as well as a brand new map. The cinematics for the end of Chapter 2 and the beginning of Chapter 3 also introduced a good amount of new lore for the overarching story of the game, which may show that Epic is starting to focus more on the game's narrative. From Spider-Man to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the Foundation, there are loads of new skins featured in this Chapter 3 Season 1's battle pass.

Fortnite Chapter 2 ended with the Cube Queen opening up an Avengers-like portal to space which brought about UFOs from previous seasons. As the Cube Queen unleashed chaos with aliens, Sideways monsters, and cubes, the players, also known as "loopers" in the cinematics, were saved by Jonesy and the Foundation, who was revealed to be played by actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. At the end of the cinematic, the bunker the players have to hunker down in is flooded, causing everyone to rush out into the open ocean and witness a cinematically beautiful shot of the island being flipped upside down. As the player is stranded at sea, the portal to space closes, leaving a couple of UFOs behind, and the Cube Queen is defeated, revealing the new map as the other side of the island.

Chapter 3 of Fortnite opened with the player character being drifted onto a smaller island of the new map, trudging along until they are greeted by the Foundation, who is with a group of other loopers. He tells the player that they will find a way to "break the loop," which has been a recurring theme since Chapter 1. The camera then pans over to the brand new map, which features about four main biomes: a snowy tundra, the usual grassy forest, a desert, and an archipelago which seems to be where the Foundation and his buddies live.

Fortnite Chapter 3's New Map Is A Mix Of Chapter 1 & 2

Fortnite: Week 11 Quest Guide (Chapter 3)

With Fortnite feeling as new as ever, Chapter 3's island manages to feel brand new despite having a good amount of areas and assets from Chapters 1 and 2. The map features four biomes, each with their own unique areas and NPC's to discover. The desert biome feels a lot like the original desert area from Chapter 1, but rockier and canyon-like. Two brand new locations, Chonker's Speedway and Condo Canyon, are some areas the player can land at this biome. The snowy tundra biome takes more than half of the map and has a tease that is exciting to many Fortnite veterans. Iconic landing spot, Tilted Towers, seems to freeze under the snow and will most likely thaw out as the season goes by. Chapter 1 locations Greasy Grove and Shifty Shafts have made a return this season as well. The rest of the landing spots are brand new locations such as Sleepy Sound and Camp Cuddle. These new locations are a sure way to bring in tons of new and returning players to the game.

On top of the usual grassy forest biome, Chapter 3's island contains an archipelago that seems to be the living space of the Seven. Featuring a gigantic statue of the Rock's Foundation, this archipelago has a series of islands littered with vaults and bunkers the player can open with a friend. These vaults contain some great loot, as well as a porta potty teleporter, first featured in Chapter 2. Fortnite also features Spider-Man's Daily Bugle as a brand new location that has been added to the map, with the landing spot being the only crossover location for now.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Includes New Mechanics Like Camping and Sliding

Fortnite's Chapter 3 spared no expense when it came to new mechanics. From sliding to swinging like Spider-Man, the game feels fresh. Starting with sliding, mobility feels so much better than it had previously, with scaling down cliffs being much easier and faster to do. There are also some new trees scattered around Fortnite's island that can be broken down by the player and rather than poofing out of thin air when destroyed, realistically fall over as logs that can be moved and even deal some damage. Epic also added a new camping mechanic, which allows the player to use and lay down tents that they can rest in to restore HP or store items. This is a great way to have extra storage in-game, though it costs gold bars to store and take out items from the tent.

Epic also added a brand new first-person ADS rifle in Chapter 3, as well as a brand new arsenal of weapons. Known as the MK-Seven, this assault rifle is a beast to use in-game, with the sights going into first-person POV when being aimed down. This is very similar to PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, which has had this kind of mechanic since day one. It will be exciting to see Fornite add more weapons similar to the MK-Seven, as it can be a game-changer in combat.

Another new mechanic that has not technically been released yet is web-swinging. With Spider-Man crossing over onto Fortnite this season, Epic has added new web-shooters into the game. This item can only be used in Arena mode for now, and will most likely be released in every game mode by the time Spider-Man: No Way Home releases. Fortnite's web-swinging has been widely praised by fans, even being compared to web-swinging in games like Marvel's Avengers.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 Battle Pass Includes Spider-Man & The Rock As The Foundation

Fortnite Chapter 3 Trailer Reveals Spider-Man

This season's battle pass is especially huge, with a ton of new skins, gliders, loading screens, and pickaxes being included. Spider-Man is the most prominent character featured in the pass, with the skin having unlockable suits and styles. The skin includes the default red and blue fit for Peter Parker but also includes the white and black Future Foundation suit and the black symbiote suit. Gears of War's Marcus Fenix and Cait Diaz were both teased in the trailer for Chapter 3's battle pass, so they may be included later on as the season continues.

One of the biggest reveals of Chapter 2 Season 8's live event was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson being shown as the voice actor for the Foundation, a prominent character in Chapter 1 and 2's cinematics. The Foundation is a special skin that can be unlocked separately from the battle pass. There is no way to unlock the titular character, with his release date being February 3, 2022. There seems to be both a helmet and no helmet style for the skin, as well.

With many new Fortnite skins and characters being teased this season, it is extremely exciting to see where Epic decides to go next with its massive battle royale. This season has been extremely successful for Fortnite, with this latest chapter including many new skins, mechanics, and a map. As the snow melts and Tilted Towers finally thaws out, many players will most definitely be enjoying the events and skins of this new, definitive season of Fortnite.
