A few supposed hints in Fortnite have led players to believe that Epic Games may unleash Chapter 3 and a new map without Chapter 2 reaching Season 10. Fortnite Chapter 1 lasted 10 seasons in total; the final run - Season X - started in August 2019 then ended a couple of months thereafter in mid-October. Naturally, Chapter 2 entered the mix in its wake, providing a brand-new map upon which players could wreak havoc.

Chapter 2 has proven itself quite the interesting beast, too. Countless crossover characters have dropped onto the island over the last year and change, from Lara Croft and Carnage to Superman and Jill Valentine. But most intriguing is that Chapter 2 has lasted longer than Chapter 1, despite the fact that the former currently resides in its eighth season of content. The second chapter's ninth season will kick off early next month on December 6, and players seem convinced that it could usher in a major turning point for Fortnite.

As noted by Eurogamer, Fortnite players have spotted in-game hints about the seemingly imminent arrival of Chapter 3. One such clue involves a book-reading emote that mentions the "end of the chapter." In addition, Season 8's Cube Queen character introduced items referencing the island's end and time winding down. Eurogamer further called attention to a leak from July that correctly unveiled Cube Queen and claimed the character would arrive in Season 8, then resurface in Chapter 3 in an unspecified but integral role. Other more recent leaks indicate Epic Games plans on eventually moving Fortnite to its proprietary Unreal Engine 5 technology. The alleged prematurely released information also suggests the title may receive a sliding feature akin to Apex Legends, as well as weapon attachments.

Multiple Fortnite YouTubers have compiled all of the above information in videos of their own that outline what the hints and teases may entail. However, SypherPK, in particular, claims to have knowledge that Fortnite's Chapter 2 map won't remain in place for too much longer. As always, though, it's best to take these details with a pinch of salt, given that Epic has yet to corroborate anything about the future of the current map.

Fortnite originally arrive in July 2017 with the tower defense-style Save the World mode. The online title didn't start printing money until Epic rolled out Fortnite's battle royale offering, a gameplay mode popularized by PUBG that quickly morphed into a worldwide phenomenon. It seems that neither Epic's runaway success nor battle royale games will leave the stratosphere anytime soon.
