Fortnite Chapter 3 is likely releasing next after the final season of Fortnite Chapter 2 begins on December 5, and so far, there have been a number of changes hinted at, rumored, leaked, or datamined. Most of these are rumors and not officially confirmed by Epic Games, but these come from reputable sources within the Fortnite community.
Fortnite’s current season, Chapter 2 Season 8, is titled Cubed. The season follows the climactic ending of the previous season, Invasion. Invasion’s ending event, Operation Skyfire, saw the return of Kevin the Cube alongside many other cubes and the destruction of the alien spaceship that sent them spiraling towards the island below. Following this, the cubes were scattered and eventually carved a path to join at the center of the map and usher in the arrival of the Cube Queen and her army. This has been building to the climactic battle between the loopers of the island and the queen herself. There are strong indications that Jonesy and The Foundation will also be tied to this dramatic conclusion. Epic Games has all but confirmed this conclusion will see "The End" of Chapter 2 and, after a brief downtime, bring players to Fortnite Chapter 3.
This brings with it the first of the leaked changes and one that will impact the gameplay and the lore moving forward. Though it is unknown how the climactic battle will play out, it has been rumored that Fortnite Chapter 3 will take place on an island overrun with the Queen’s corruption and continued influence. This will also likely play into a new leaked mode that is rumored to begin in Chapter 3, currently being referred to by some as "No Build Duos." This mode, as the name implies, will see players drop into the battle royale duos mode without the ability to build anything, marking a departure for one of the series’ iconic features present since the game’s original release. This mode is justified by the lore since players currently also do not possess the ability to build inside the Queen’s zones called Sideways, a zone that could very well extend throughout the map once the Queen’s corruption spreads.
Fortnite Chapter 3 Leaks Hint At New Movement Features
Another leaked change for Fortnite Chapter 3 is the new player-ability to slide. This feature is something that is already familiar to many other games, such as Call of Duty: Warzone, Warframe, and Apex Legends. However, this will mark the first time the slide functionality enters Fortnite. Sliding could change how the game is played, especially if it is introduced alongside the No Build Duos mode. Unlike several other rumors, this has been teased already by Epic Games in a tweet announcing the release of the FNCS limited-time Victor Elite skin and the accompanying back bling and lobby track. The graphic accompanying the tweet shows Victor Elite sliding while shooting his gun. Many people have been quick to speculate that this has been a teaser of the rumored slide feature that will be releasing soon.
There have also been a variety of other Fortnite Chapter 3 rumors and leaks based on Season Eight, such as a new futuristic city in Chapter 3 which was depicted in the recently released Tech Future pack trailer. There have also been rumors on future winter events, battle pass skins, potential mount system, celebrity concerts, and of course, amazing crossovers such as the recently confirmed Star Wars crossover set to go live on December 24. With Chapter 3 seemingly on the horizon and "The End" of Chapter 2, players should make sure to enjoy their final weeks Fortnite.
