In Fortnite, players will need to find a Malfunctioning Vending Machine to complete the season quest for week 6 in Chapter 3. The challenge is for players to purchase an item from a Malfunctioning Vending Machine. While regular Vending Machines are commonly found throughout the map, the malfunctioning machines are much more challenging to locate. Additionally, the malfunctioning units will spawn randomly, so players may have to re-visit normal Vending Machines to determine if they are now Malfunctioning Vending Machines.

With a traditional Vending Machine in Fortnite, players can input Gold Bars in exchange for high-tier items such as weapons or healing items. When players insert Gold Bars into a Malfunctioning Vending Machine, they will likely receive a small amount of building material they otherwise could have obtained for free. In addition, there is a small chance players could receive a rare in-game weapon from the Malfunctioning Vending Machine. Still, players will need to sacrifice their Gold Bars for the likely unimpressive prize given by the malfunctioning unit if they hope to complete the quest. Players will need to collect and spend 100 Gold Bars to complete their quest to obtain an item from a Malfunctioning Vending Machine.

Players can identify a Malfunctioning Vending Machine in Fortnite by the red display with a white exclamation mark, in contrast to the regular Vending Machine's blue display lights or pictures of a friendly animal. A Malfunctioning Vending Machine will spawn randomly, and it will take the place of an existing in-game Vending Machine. Accordingly, there is no set location that guarantees players will find a Malfunctioning Vending Machine, and players may have to search the exact location twice.

Malfunctioning Vending Machine Locations in Fortnite Chapter 3

Fortnite Vending Machine Locations

Players should first explore the two primary areas for a Malfunctioning Vending Machine: Coney Crossroads and Sleepy Sound. Each of these locations contains three Vending Machines that players can check if they have been replaced by a Malfunctioning Vending Machine. Once there, players can obtain a car in Fortnite and begin to search the area. Players should utilize their minimap once in these areas to spot the vending machine symbol, which is a small white rectangle. The symbol will only appear once players are sufficiently close to a Vending Machine, but the symbol can appear if the machine is on the other side of a wall.

If players do not find a Malfunctioning Vending Machine at one of the six spawn locations at Coney Crossroads or Sleepy Sound, they can check the other locations where Vending Machines are located. For example, vending machines can be found at Logjam Beryard, Sanctuary, the Joneses, Chonkers Speedway, Rocky Reels, Greasy Grove, Shifty shafts, Daily Bugle, Condo Canyon, and Camp Cuddle. Additionally, these machines are often found near Gas Stations in Fortnite. Once players arrive on one of these locations from the main map, they should use the minimap specific to the area to find the exact locations of the Vending Machines.

Once players complete the week six challenge to obtain an item from a Malfunctioning Vending Machine, they will be rewarded with 25,000 XP towards finishing the Battle Pass. In addition, the Battle Pass grants players access to exclusive rewards for each in-game season or chapter.
