Capture Points are a unique new mechanic introduced in Fortnite Chapter Four, allowing players to raise their banners over the Fortnite island’s points of interest in return for special rewards. Encouraging strategic, king-of-the-hill style gameplay, Capture Points challenge solo players, duos, and squads alike to battle their opponents and emerge victorious with potentially game-winning equipment and gear. However, to take advantage of Capture Points and the unique benefits they offer, players need to strategize by making contesting and claiming these special zones a priority in the earliest stages of their matches.

Newly introduced alongside a brand-new Fortnite battle pass in Fortnite Chapter Four, Capture Points are special zones that appear at Points of Interest (POIs) across the new Fortnite island map. While the island has dozens of well-known landmarks, Points of Interest are the largest locations that players can explore in Fortnite. Their size often draws lots of players looking to get a strong start to their matches by hopefully emerging victorious over their opponents in early-game firefights. In Fortnite Chapter Four, each of the island’s POIs has its own Capture Point, which players can contest as soon as they land from the Battle Bus.

How To Claim Capture Points In Fortnite

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 Player Raising Banners At Slappy Shores Capture Point

Capture Points will appear at all of the Fortnite island’s Points of Interest, including at some of the best landing spots in Fortnite Chapter Four such as Slappy Shores, Anvil Square and Frenzy Fields. To capture them, players must stand inside the circular capture zones for 60 seconds while fending off their opponents. This can be challenging; capture zones are large and often feature wide open spaces with little to no cover, giving approaching attackers an advantage. Regardless of squad size, players should avoid rushing capture points as soon as they land. Gearing up and securing good weapons before attempting a capture is key.

Players can track an ongoing capture using the meter that appears on their HUD. Once their team’s banners have risen to the top of the pole in the center of the Capture Point, players will have claimed that POI. Once a Capture Point is claimed, it rewards players with a big loot drop containing Rare and Epic quality weapons, with a chance to drop Fortnite’s new Shockwave Hammer melee weapon. Nearby loot chests and enemies are also temporarily marked for the team that successfully claims a Capture Point, essentially allowing them to spot enemies through walls.

Claiming Capture Points is a risky move, but the rewards are great. Aside from the prestige of raising their personal banners over iconic Fortnite landmarks and locations, players who succeed also gain a substantial advantage over nearby opponents. To cap that all off, players also receive high-quality weapons and gear to carry them into the late game and possibly even toward a coveted Victory Royale. With new challenges tasking players with striking down as many of their opponents as possible, as well as locating special Oathbound Chests, players shouldn’t ignore the benefits of one of Fortnite’s newest mechanics.
