Since its launch almost five years ago, Fortnite: Battle Royale has kept fans entertained with its consistent crossovers, map changes, updates, and in-game events. Although Fortnite's biggest events happen live and only once, Epic Games have released some limited-time events that keep more and more fans jumping out of the battle bus each season.

Limited-time events usually happen a few times each season and are often related to big pop-culture crossovers, like Avengers: Endgame, or real-life celebrations, such as Halloween. They bring new challenges, rewards, temporary map changes, and exciting new game mechanics for all players to enjoy, which keep the battle royale giant fresh and fun.

Fortnite X Mayhem

Fortnite X Mayhem Borderlands Crossover Begins Today

One of gaming's most hilariously hectic franchises, Borderlands, treated fans with an awesome Fortnite crossover event that transformed part of the island into Pandora for a limited time, promoting the franchise's third main entry.

This epic event is considered to be one of the best Fortnite collaborations so far, and cell-shaded a section of the map Borderlands-style to replicate Pandora, the series' most infamous planet, for players to battle in. On top of this, Psycho was added as a purchasable skin, alongside Claptrap as the game's first collaborative pet cosmetic, which in true Claptrap fashion sits on the player's back, constantly shouting useless nonsensical statements.

Food Fight LTM

Durr Burger versus Pizza Pit - Fortnite's most infamous rivalry. This over-the-top limited-time event brought in a new game mode that featured the two fictional restaurants battling it out with two teams of 50 players.

In the 'Food Fight' LTM, a huge unbreakable barrier protects both teams from each other for the first few minutes of each match, giving players a chance to build defenses around their restaurant's mascot before the forthcoming conflict. During the battle, players' heads were hilariously replaced with either a tomato or burger to show what side they were on, and teams would work together to try and destroy the other restaurant's mascot. Epic Games have brought back the Food Fight LTM multiple times due to its unique and hysterically fun gameplay.

Cosmic Summer

As part of Fortnite's extraterrestrial-themed season, Epic Games celebrated the summer with the Cosmic Summer event, which brought about new challenges, more LTMs, and cosmic parties.

The celebration's main location was at Believer Beach, which changed throughout the event as the festivities continued. Epic Games released limited-time alien-themed challenges to be completed in a range of player-created LTMs, which gave players some great summer rewards to enjoy, including skins, gliders, back bling, and more. The event encouraged players to use abductors, new alien-like spacecraft which could pick up players and objects, a great game mechanic that made this event special and memorable.

Welcome To Gotham City

Gotham City, one of pop culture's most famous superhero locations, joined Fortnite in this Batman crossover, temporarily replacing one of Fortnite's best locations, Tilted Towers, in all its' gloomy glory.

This new location was a comic accurate depiction of DC's Gotham City, filled with references such as Wayne Tower, Gotham City Hall, ACE Factories, and the Monarch Theater. Furthermore, the Bat-Signal lit up the sky, calling out for Batman like the real Gotham City. Catwoman and Batman skins were added to the item shop, alongside limited-time Batman-related challenges, rewarding players with some great DC goodies.

Winterfest 2021

With most of the island covered in snow, Winterfest 2021 kicked off on December 16th, featuring festive decorations across the map, a Fortnite-style Santa gifting players presents, snowmen, and more.

Players could enter Sgt. Winter's Winterfest Lodge to collect a present on each day of the event, which featured two skins and many other winter-themed cosmetics. Sgt. Winter would also travel around the map on his 'sleigh' (truck), launching present boxes containing rare items for players to open and enjoy, a fun feature that brought holiday cheer and excitement to the island. Snow would constantly fall upon the brightly decorated island, adding to the festive atmosphere and creating an even more memorable and exciting event.

Players could gather around the screen in the Party Royale mode, grabbing some popcorn, kicking back, and enjoying the show. This event was revolutionary for gaming as a whole, as it demonstrated just how far the industry has evolved over the decades, to the point that movies and short films can be viewed within an online shared video-game world. Epic Games truly made this one of the best Fortnite events and even had spin-off events that featured full-blown movies and live streams, which showed what can be achieved in gaming's exciting future.

Fortnitemares 2021 - Wrath Of The Cube Queen

The annual Fortnitemares event rotates into Fortnite every Halloween season, featuring spooky game mechanics, map changes, challenges, and more. In the 2021 event, the spooky shenanigans related directly to Fortnite's storyline.

This event featured Sideways anomalies, which were small purple cracks in reality that expanded into mini Sideways zones. These terrifying zones featured some of Fortnite's scariest enemies, which the player could defeat to obtain overpowered Sideways weapons. Players teamed up with friends to take on all sorts of Sideways enemies, such as the Cube Assassin and the Caretaker, making it one of the most fun and replayable events Fortnite has released so far.

Endgame

Avengers Endgame, one of the best-ranked superhero movies of all time, had an exciting crossover with Fortnite to countdown the much-anticipated movie launch, featuring a brand new game mode involving Avengers-inspired weapons, the six Infinity Stones, and the evil Chitauri.

In this LTM, players would join the Avengers team or the Thanos team in a battle for the Infinity Stones. The Avengers team has to defeat Thanos and his Chitauri army using Avengers-themed weapons, such as Captain America's shield and Iron Man's repulsors, whereas the Thanos team would have to help Thanos collect all six Infinity Stones to achieve a 'Snap Royale.' The awesome ability to use Avengers weapons makes this event truly stand out as one of the most innovative and exciting events ever to come to Fortnite.

High Stakes

Fortnite's High Stakes event featured heist-themed challenges and rewards, as well as its own heist-inspired LTM, The Getaway.

The Getaway LTM involves special airdrops containing jewels across the map, which players must race to and battle for possession. Jewel-holding players are visible on the map and physically move faster, and must survive many potential ambushes from other players, winning by reaching a flying van (essentially a smaller battle bus) and getting away. This was an exhilarating event that involved high-speed gameplay and strategizing with friends, which makes it massively stand out as one of the most fun and memorable Fortnite events yet.

Infinity War

Fortnite Thanos Skin

One of Fortnite's first-ever events, the Infinity War event was an Avengers: Infinity War crossover which shook the island (and fans) with the sudden arrival of the mad titan himself, Thanos.

During this event, at the beginning of each match, the Infinity Gauntlet would drop somewhere on the map, and any player who grabbed it transformed into Thanos and had the full abilities of all six stones of the Gauntlet. This event was hugely praised, as at the time, no official Avengers game had been released, so the ability to play as a Marvel character, and a huge one at that, was incredible. Players now had a new objective - take down the mad titan, making the event one of the most memorable and exciting ones ever to release in Fortnite.
