Square Enix revealed during the September 2021 PlayStation Showcase that PS5 exclusive Forspoken will be released in Spring 2022. Forspoken was initially called Project Athiabefore being renamed earlier this year.

Forspoken is an upcoming action RPG that follows Frey Holland, a person who grew up on the rough streets of New York City. Frey is transported to the magical world of Athia, where she now sports a sentient set of bracelets, called Cuff. Frey must go on a journey to master the arcane energy present in Athia, which will allow her to navigate the realm through magical parkour skills. She will eventually come into conflict with Tanta Sila, the mad ruler of Athia, who will be fought in one of the game's boss battles.

Forspoken was featured during the PlayStation Showcase, with a segment that showed both cinematics and gameplay. The game now has a release window, as it was revealed that Forspoken is coming to PS5 and PC in Spring 2022. The Forspoken segment of the PlayStation Showcase can be seen below on the official PlayStation YouTube channel. The trailer features an extensive look at the world of Athia, as well as striking airborne enemies with spells, and a vicious boss fight involving magical melee combat.

Square Enix has revealed the cast behind ForspokenFrey Holland will be voiced by Ella Balinska (Charlie's Angels), while Cuff the magical bracelet will be voiced by Jonathan Cake (Stargirl). The two Athian allies Frey meets in the trailer have also been revealed, with Johed voiced by Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) and Auden voiced by Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick). The villainous Tanta Sila will be voiced by Janina Gavankar (True Blood), whose previous video game work includes Far Cry 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds. The score for Forespoken is being handled by Bear McCreary (God of War, The Walking Dead) and Garry Schymon (the Bioshock series).

The 2022 game schedule is packed with huge titles that carry big names, such as Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Gran Turismo 7, and the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There are also some highly-anticipated games that aren't linked to big franchises, like Elden Ring, Stray, and Ghostwire: Tokyo. Forespoken has the chance to hit the latter category, as the footage that has been released so far is extremely impressive. The magical realm of Athia looks like it will be a blast to explore, while the battles bristle with energy. Athia is still a little ways off, but it looks like it will be worth the wait.
